Wren carefully pulled back the sheets. The cauterized wound was red and puffy, the edges of the wound that had been melted together were very red. "This looks really bad. We need to get the doctor in here!"

Rylan took a deep breath and leaned his head back. He'd expected as much, but still... hearing it was frightening. Infected wounds could be very bad, and rarely were they no big deal. There was a very real possibility he might die, and he very much didn't want to.

Wren rushed out in a flutter of long, black skirts and came back moments later with a doctor who had happened to be nearby. The doctor clucked his tongue. "Yes, this looks quite bad. I believe we will have to call in a specialist." Wren looked on nervously, then barged into the conversation. "I'll go! I'll get the specialist."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Rylan could hardly hear either of them. He was slipping back into unconsciousness, just barely hanging on.

Wren held his hand. "Rylan, hold on! Don't let go! I'm going to get a specialist an you are going to get better. Okay? Just stay awake!"

Wren was ready in a few minutes, with a sack of food and a traveling cloak on. She was accompanied by a guard and they left as swiftly as possible, down into the city and towards the desert. The man they were looking for lived several miles from the city, and they would have to travel fast to reach him in time.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The guard rode by her side, his eyes sweeping the landscape warily the farther they got from the town. Bandits had been known to attack in this area. A party of two could be unappealing or seen as an easy target, depending on the band. They'd just have to see.

Wren looked around warily, wishing Rylan were here. She rode steadily until a house came into view.

"Is that the place?" the guard asked her quietly. He was definitely on edge.

Wren nodded, looking down at a small map she had been given. Leaving had been a swift blur. "Yes," she mumbled. "That looks about right."

"Then let's get this over with," he said. The guard, Aldric, had been working for the family for three years. Now, at 23, he was a rather trusted soldier and one of Rylan's favorites. He wasn't happy about this idea, but he'd do anything for his lord.

Wren looked at him and nodded. "Yes, do let's." She started trotting towards the little, dilapidated house. Once there, she dismounted and knocked on the door. "It's an emergency!"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Go away!" came the immediate response. The voice was gruff, perhaps from an older man, and definitely irritable. "There's no emergency important enough to disturb me at this hour!"
