Rylan offered her his hand, a faint smile on his face. He rarely smiled these days.

Wren took his hand confidently and smiled. She let him take the lead.

Rylan led her to the dance floor and then placed one hand on her hip. He waited a few seconds before finding the beat and falling into the rhythm of the music.

Surprisingly, Wren followed almost perfectly, swaying perfectly with the music while paying attention to Rylan's face. She gave a small smile- dancing had been the one thing she was good at while she was in finishing school.

Rylan led her through the steps, surprised at how well she did. When the song finished, he stepped away from the other dancers.

Wren gave him a small smile when the dance was over and went over to get a drink.

Rylan watched her go, a faint smile on his face. Then a man came up to his and offered his hand. Rylan shook it, but his eyes kept drifting across the room to Wren.

Wren soon found herself in a group of noblewomen who gossiped to no end. She tried to appear at ease but it twisted her face into a pinched expression of displeasure and discomfort.

Rylan tried multiple times to disengage himself from the nobleman, but the man just kept on talking. He listened, or at least pretended to, attentively and nodded at proper places. He just wanted to get away from him.

Wren softly excused herself to walk out onto he balcony that faced the desert. She sighed a breath of relief- she hated being around gossipy people. She leaned her forearms on the balcony raining and gazed out over the sands that had taken so much from her.

Rylan looked around the room for her, but he seemed to have lost her. He sighed and excused himself from the man before walking across the ballroom and stepping out onto the balcony. Maybe some fresh air would help him.

Wren heard someone approaching and turned to see who it was. Seeing that it was her host, she bobbed in a hurried curtsy and smiled. "Fancy meeting you here."

"It is a pleasant coincidence," Rylan said. "It's nice out here."

She nodded her agreement. "Yes. It's a nice night, nicer than most."

"It's cool," Rylan murmured. "It's been a long summer."

"Too long," she said. "I wish I could live nearer to Winterfell. IT's cooler up there."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Careful what you wish for," Rylan said. "You might end up there."

"Exactly," she said with a smile. "I do actually want to live up there."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Rylan raised his eyebrows. "Really?"

She smiled and nodded dreamily. "If only."
