The corridor was eerily quiet as the young slave walked down, letting his hands trail along the coarse walls. He felt a little lost in this big household. There were a lot more servants around, so much more than the last place he lived. They seemed to be treated better here, in comparison.

Cei took a deep breath and sighed, his dark eyes flicking around. He was heading to the kitchen to help clean pots and pans. The boy began to hum a song from his home village, the creepy yet sad tune carrying around him.

The princess, the youngest one who was rarely seen outside of her room even at meal time sat outside by a large fountain and a few red rose bushes, hearing the song she turned her head, she felt it seemed familiar but no not possible she thought. Her long wavy hair was as black as the midnight sky without a moon or stars to light it, her lips put the color of the rose to shame and her perfect pale skin was literally flawless. Her name was Colene, and she was the only princess never to be allowed out of the castle.

Carter stood next to the girl, he was her, personal servant, he did household things and same as all the others but he was assigned to her, to attend to her every whim, be her exclusive butler.

Cei passed by an opening that led to the gardens and he glanced outside. Sometimes, he wished he could just run away again, but that never worked out well. He noticed two figures by the fountain- Carter he recognized, but not the girl.

The girls eyes were an electric green mixed with blue and as her head turned she pricked her finger on the rose she was holding and winced, Carter immediately dropped to one knee and pulled out his handkerchief. He set the rose down and put the cloth to the small bead of blood, making her chuckle,

"Carter its fine" she said chuckling slightly

"But miss-" he immediately stopped himself and stood, leaving the handkerchief /no ifs ands or buts/ he repeated in his head.

He shouldn't have stopped and gone out to them, but Cei was naturally curious. He changed course, going out to the garden. He told himself he'd do the dishes later. Cei was curious to see who this was that Carter was serving.

The girl dabbed at the small wound, her smile always curved her perfect lips. She hummed gently, her melodious voice causing Carter to close his eyes

Cei stopped and listened to her sing, tilting his head curiously. Suddenly, he smiled and quietly joined in on her little song. He couldn't help it- he loved music.

She jumped hearing another voice and backed against Carter as if he was her only sense of security "who are you" she asked.

Carter put his hands on her arms "Lady Colene, he is a servant, its fine" he said

"Ah, uh, I-I'm sorry," Cei backed up a little and clasped his hands behind his back, head bowed, "I heard you singing and.."

She stepped from Carter " i apologize for being so rude, im just easily scared" she chuckled embarrassed.

Carter looked at him with a slight glare.

He rubbed his hands together, "You have a beautiful voice, Miss.." Cei said shyly, avoiding making eye contact with Carter.

Colene blushed lightly "thank you" she said

"My name is Cei," he bowed to her like he was taught, "I'm a new servant here."

She smiled "im princess Colene, its nice to meet you"

Cei straightened up and nodded, "I-I should probably go. I'm not supposed to be outside.."

Carter nodded "milady, you sho-" he was cut off by Colene raising a hand to put a finger against his lip "shhh i wish to give him a gift" she said plucking a rose off then breaking all the thorns. "Here, take it, so your love will blossom" she said then offered him the rose

"Oh..no..you don't have to," Cei stuttered, looking embarrassed.

Colene put the rose in his hand "i insist".

He bowed and looked down at the rose, "Thank you, Miss Colene."

She smiled and nodded then turned to Carter, "its about time for me to go back in, sister is probably in there looking for me by now." She said.

Carter nodded and led her inside, as she walked past Cei, her thin body looked slightly malnourished but it was only a slight, subtle thing?
