' In a land of magic and possibility, we drew the short straw from the bunch.
I guess it started...or we finally noticed the world we knew crumbling around us a little too late. People were getting sick, and then would suddenly turn into wolves at night. I was in the royal guard, me and my friend. We were kept inside until all the outside fighting forces were torn apart or infected. Who would have know our sheltered community would fall in such a short time or twenty four hours. But to us... Those hours felt like an eternity... '
-- 3 HOURS BEFORE THE INFECTION BEGAN --
His hair was a dark brown, long and gentle as a feather to the skin. He had a soft look to his face, and his lips were always set in a smile. There was hardly a moment when someone saw the man, by the name Rider Farstrider, in a foul mood. A silver wedding hand was on his ring finger, and the hand which it adorned was rested upon a sword hilt. He was leaned to the side against the castle gate, waiting for his companion and long time best friend to show up for the days work.
Rider was to be married in a few months to a commoner whose name is unannounced, as the news of his engagement is only a week old. Everyone loved the smiling knight, who he himself rose up from poverty and became a knight in the direct service of the king, and most of the women were heartbroken to see him finally claimed.
The long black haired female ran up, her white cape dragging behind like always, it was supposed to reach the back of her knees but she always seemed to forget that one button on her right shoulder which held,it on. She had two swords one on each side of her waist, straps crossing over one another, her skirt was purple like waas the males pants and her shirt went to mid-bicep then. There were bandages wrapping around her elbows all the way around her hands. Her wrists and hands had been covered wver since he met her on the streets as children of poverty. Her tall black boots had three inch heels and were laced all the way up to right below her knee. She has and always will go by the name of Marciline, but once she became a royal guard she had a little extra added to her name, the danger of the red eye. Her eyes were mis matched, one red and one blue. Her full red lips were undeniable and suited her pale olive skin that covered her whole body well.
Rider takes a few steps forward and gently fixes her cape for her, "Good morning, Marci," he smiles and takes care to not let the large hammer hanging on his back swing and bump her. He only looked at her like a little sister, and has ever since he met her on the streets at a young age. He reserved those eyes for her, but had another gaze that was special to someone else now.
She chuckled and rubbed the back of her head, her bangs falling in her face "hey Rider" she said as he fixed her cape. She tapped his hammer, playing with it like a toddler. She was always easily fascinated and even at this age was clueless and always tended to piss people off because of her way of teasing them, luckily Rider had always been kind, so she never teased him unless it was something they had always teased each other about. She had a finger on her right pointer that opened up and had a crystallized flower within in, a flower given to her by a sorcerer, an old little trick he had told her about to try and cheer up the young girl who had nothing but a best friend.
"So hows it goin?" She asked swaying back and forth on her heels with her big childish grin which could make a man with the most sour of feelings smile. She was just one of those people, not matter what she did or whats going on, you cant help but smile at her.
Rider draws his hands back with a satisfied hum, the cape now orderly fixed on her shoulders. "Just the usual--old mans getting crabbier by the day. I thinks it's his diet." He says, referring to the king. He allows her to poke at his hammer, his stature relaxed. Today had been good to him so far.
"Thats natural though, he's the king, he thinks he can do whatever the heck he wants" she said then tapped at the edge of it, accidentally scratching the metal with her long thick sharpened nails, they looked just like any...cat nails, except a mix between a humans and the sharpness of a cat. Standing up before he noticed she shoved her hands to her side, refreshing the mental note to not tap at anything metal. She swayed "so hows the marriage?" She asked poking at the ring. Her nails had always been like that, they just seemed to get thicker every year, she hated to cut them but they never grew longer, just sharper and stronger.
"She wants to have the ceremony soon," he answers, glad to change the subject before they got caught talking about the king in a bad manner. "Before it gets too cold. Your coming right?" He asks, his blue eyes taking on a pleading pout. He wanted that day to be perfect--and it wouldn't be without Marci there with him.
She had refused at first, the many reasons buzzing around in her head /why should i, i should be that person, I've been there for you this whole time, she doesn't deserve you, you deserve even more than me/ not bearing to continue look at him she averted her gaze. "Whats the proposal exactly" she said with her usual playful tone, trying just to keep him happy, even if it made her miserable.
"You'll just need to stand there. The ceremony should only last ten minutes," he fidgets with his hands nervously, his gaze flying around the area. He disliked public ceremonies, so for him to agree to partake in one for even that long must mean his fiancé must be extremely persuasive.
She turned away from him hiding her saddened gaze "yeah sure i guess" she said /he must care about her way more, hell do a ceremony for her, he would never...not for me/ she thought.
Rider looks over his shoulder and yelps a bit, "We're gonna be late for the guard shift switch if we don't hurry," he tells her while nudging his hammer back so her could move quicker.
She jumped in surprise then started running alongside him, her feet moving at a much slower pace than she normally ran. "Gosh darn." She mumbled, annoyed.
"Sorry, sorry," he quickly apologized with hurrying along, "We weren't even supposed to come in today, I hope whomever got sick gets better quickly," he frets worriedly and reaches out ahead of him to push open the door.
