"That's not what I meant. But OK. Glad to know you feel that way," he replied dryly. When they finally go to the inn, he held up a hand, gesturing towards the guy behind them. He looked like a noble coming into town to get some supplies. "There's our target," he breathed to her, eyeing the noble in the corner of his eyes.
"I heard that he's traveling from city to city in hopes of finding riches," he added, nodding to him. "I'll distract him while you grab his money, got it?"
Elizah grabbed the noble's shoulder, relaxing his own shoulders. "Sir, I was wondering if you could spare me some gold," he said, pressing his eyebrows together, "my wife, sir, she's with child. We have no money to support her."
"Please sir, the king here is taxing us too much. We're suffering because of him. Though I've heard how gracious you are," Elizah said, trying to coddle up to him, "I've heard tales of your generosity, of how you've saved countless lives because of how much you care for the people."
Elizah brightened and flashed him a smile. "Oh no sir! There is no need to be so embarrassed of this, you have saved countless lives while the king takes them away. So please sir, could I have just three silver pieces? That would get me and my wife through the week."
Elizah held up his pointer finger to Alexianna, mouthing to her it was almost time. He straightened up, turning back to the noble. Putting his hands at his side, he bowed deeply, saying, "I thank you, great noble. You have saved my child and my wife."
She gave him a thumbs up, sneaking as close to the noble as she could without breathing down his neck. He was fumbling around, trying to come up with the adequate amount of money. When he pulled a few coins out, Alexianna's hand struck like a cobra, closing around the entirety of his coin-purse and pulling it from his bag without so much as a jostle.
Elizah gave her the tiniest of nods. If things were going as well as it seemed, they would have three extra silver pieces. Perhaps Alexianna had her uses. Stifling a laugh with a cough, he stood up straighter. "Thank you, dear noble," he said.
Elizah took a step back, disappearing back into the shadows. He leaned against the wall, pushing the coins into his pockets. Well, this was going a lot better than he had planned.
