Nothing is ever simple in the kingdom of Leadric. Besides the many everyday rules and customs that both men and women have to follow, there are also rules about whom one could marry or even consider.
Adreif was a man of simple beginnings. He was born into a family of poemmas, or peasants in the Leadricean language. His father was a blacksmith of no small talent, and his mother was a maid to a wealthy noblewoman in the capitol of Leadric called Glayden. Having no adult at home during the day left Adreif's older sister and he to take care of their three younger siblings, Larwen at the age of eight, boy Haelin at the age of six, and little Leesi at the tender age of two. Adreif began to learn the trade of his father at sixteen years and showed an uncanny talent for working steel into the shape he wanted it. He would spend hours in the smithy perfecting his craft, eager for attention as he and his oldest sister Elai had never gotten the approval they craved.
One day, Adreif was working in his open-air forge while people meandered outside, buying their daily bread and provisions. He was sweating, working hard at a particularly tricky bit of metal for a wealthy nobleman, when his odd silver eyes caught the sight of a young woman. He watched her go by, his hands still working while he gazed. He averted his eyes when they contacted hers and he continued to bend the red-hot piece of metal, keeping his eyes to himself as he felt the presence of another come near him.
"Working a sword today, are you boy?" a deep voice asked as it came closer. Adreif looked up to see his father, who had not missed his eldest son looking at the young noblewoman. He clapped a hand onto his shoulder and said, "Let her go, Ad. She is a aiahar and we are but simple blacksmiths. Keep your mind to your work." Adreif gazed at his father and then continued to pound the sword with the metal.
(The young noblewoman can be your character or not. Whichever you like! )
