"Yes, hopefully. Perhaps when we have enough people we can make a house," Robin said, working on tacking the canvas around the trunks of the trees above their heads. "I think we could fell some trees and make a house in the woods."
"We would have to be careful to not make it too noticeable," Burn comments, "If they found out too early on that we were gathering, they would come and wash us out."
Robin bit his lip and looked around. An idea struck him. "There is a system of caves nearby, huge and well protected. We could clear them out, seal off all but two entrances, and make that our headquarters. I've explored them- the smallest cave could hold at least five men." His voice grew more excited with every word.
"That could serve its purpose for awhile... but we would need someone with experience in carpentry, and ways to filter in light. We don't get that much with the cloud cover anyways, and being in tunnels for a few days can make men sick." Burn sits down under their work, and lays down on his back. "It's a good idea though, one we'll have to plan and get ready for."
"Yes, and masonry. We could drill holes in the ceilings and cover them up when it rains. Plus, it would only be a place to sleep. If it gets to the point where we're actually retaliating, we shouldn't be in HQ too much," he said with a small smile. "And then there's the issue of leadership- someone has to be in charge of raids." He continued tacking up the canvas until it was secure and then helped Burn with the skeleton.
"Umu..." he hums, "We would probably have to move around in the forest a lot. Have different sites to meet at," he tsks at the mentioning of leadership, "You might as well be the leader. The best I can help with is strategies, but leading people... it has to be a certain kind of person to do that. You'd do fine."
Robin stopped working for a minute to think. "Thank you. I'll try." He continued working while he talked. "Anyways, while I agree with the moving around business, we still need a place to have permanently. Not many people know about the caves, most of them think they're only cave, and all of them save me are terrified of them. I know just about every inch and if we his it well enough, we wouldn't have to worry about being discovered. On our raids, we'll move fast and cover our tracks and we will be fine."
Burn nods his head agreeably, "Shouldn't be too hard--we can spread some rumors slowly to keep people away from the caves and forest as well. People around here take superstitions seriously." Dark, tangled red bangs fall over his eyes as he bends down to force a stick in deeper.
Robin chuckled and nodded. "That's exactly what we're relying on." As they finished the skeleton, Robin stood and cracked his back. "That should do it. For now we can collect leaves and drape them over- later on we can buy some canvas in a little village or something." He looked up at the sky. It was dusk now and the ire had been reduced back to embers as they had worked. "Let's build that fire up and take turns sleeping. Tonorrow we can go see those caves."
(You know... now that I've played this plot for a while, I'm kind of wishing I had made my charrie a girl so everybody can be all like 'whoa, we're being stolen from by a girl' and her followers could be all like 'whoa our leader is a girl!' She would dress up like a guy and cover her face so they can't tell. :3 Would you mind if I changed it to that? You wouldn't have to do anything, I would just have to make some minor adjustments to my posts.)
(Hermmm... I don't mind--but I think it would also be funny if Burn didn't know either :3 Just for future plot w-t-h sakes)
"I'll take first watch," Burn moves over and starts gathering up leaves, shaking the snow out of them. "You go ahead and lay down, I'll take care of the rest. You look more tired than I," he stands up and spreads the leaves over the top, making sure that it was well-enough hidden. "I might have enough spare coin on me to put towards a canvas,"
(Ooh good idea xD Robin could already be a girl but in disguise!! >:3 I'm going to edit my post a little to fit that and then it'll be all set for maximum WTH)
Robin nodded, yawning but concealing it with his hand. "Thanks. Wake me when you get to tired to continue- I'll take over." He climbed in through an opening into their cozy little lean-to. He took out a blanket he had brought from home and spread it onto the ground, curling up in the softness of the cloth before quickly falling asleep.
... It was morning when Burn poked at Robin to wake, having let him sleep the whole night. He had already unwrapped the dried meat he had been rationing, leaving it open for the other to grab one for breakfast. He had taken off his cloak and laid it in the makeshift tent, a tangled mess of long hair down his back that was hidden by the cloaks cover. He had the muscles of a hard worker--and the mouth of a wealthy man... But now he just looked like a scraggly farm hand.
Robin awoke immediately and started slashing at the air with a knife that had previously been invisible. He relaxed though and gazed at Burn. "Sorry. I didn't mean to do that- reflexes, you know." Robin hadn't taken off his cowl the whole time or the piece that covered his mouth and nose. He had even slept in it.
"Its fine," the stick he had prodded him with drew back, and was tosses onto the ground. "The worst that could happen is if you poked my eye. Eye wounds get nasty,"
Robin rubbed at his eyes and drew off the top of his cowl, pulling down the mouth-and-nose piece so it only covered his mouth. "Yeah. Well, just toss water on me or something next time. Why didn't you wake me up for second shift?"
"Maybe snow," Burn says, "But not water--too precious." he rubs his hands free of caked dirt that had been gathering, "Just didn't feel like sleeping. Too much on my mind for there to be rest."
Robin gave a snort of agreement. "I understand. I've learned to force myself to sleep though." He took a piece of the meat and ate it, chewing thoughtfully. The sky above was clear and sunny. "We should go check out the caves today. We can seal off the exits and work on finding a meeting room, bedrooms, et cetera."
"Too soon for that..." Burn stands up after murmuring to himself, and picks up his cloak. "It sounds like a plan. The most we can do right now is that..."
"Okay," Robin said as he continued to eat. When the edge of his hunger was off, he looked at Burn and nodded. "Let's go. You'd better bring a weapon in case something attacks us." As for Robin, he took out a sleek, beautiful bow with intricate etches on the wood. He strung it and swung a quiver of arrows on his back.
"Wouldn't think of leaving without it," he packs up the strips of food and slips them into his pack. He then kneels down and moves the snow away that had gathered. He grabs a silver handle, and lifts a medium sized hammer from the ground. He slips the handle in his belt, fastening it so that it wouldn't slip out.
