Bell nods in agreement to her brothers words as she watches his hands. She looks up to the nurse and shrinks as she watches his lips.
"... Oh, yes, I got a call from downstairs. Both of you...." he pulls back a curtain on one side of the room before going to the other, revealing two beds in a room of four, the other two closest to the far wall still covered, "Change into the robe on the bed and lay down." the nurse instructs.
Chase walked over to the bed obediently and took off his ratty clothes, changing into the clean robe on the bed. He climbed into the bed, surprised at how comfortable it was. Much better than sleeping on the ground... He lay back comfortably.
Bell nervously walked over to the other bed and did the same, her sack-like dress on the floor like a stain. She laid back on the bed and made a soft noise as she too discovered how comfortable it was.
"I'll start with you then," the nurse says to Chase as he picks up a helmet from his cart. "I'll put this on your head, and connect you to the stream. You'll fall asleep, and 'wake up' to see instructions. Create your character, pick a name--and you're done. Any questions?"
Chase swallowed his nervousness but slowly nodded. "Yes, okay. What.... I'll be able to move around, right? Without actually moving? How does that work?" He tried to relax but it was undeniably scary
The nurse balances the helmet on his hip and waits a moment before answering. "Your mind will be the only thing moving. It's almost like a dream... but with a lot of other people, and the setting and rules are already decided."
The nurse slides the helmet onto his head, the screen inside of it dark. There's a click as he connects a cable to it, "I'm gonna connect you to the IV, so don't move..."
Chase bit his lip and then closed his eyes, scared for his life and his sister's. The government had told them that it was completely safe but, for some reason, he didn't quite believe them. He hated needles, too, so when he felt the IV he winced and cried out a little. But soon he became very tired...
As Chase began to fall asleep, the world around him suddenly fell away as if it had disappeared. Though, few minuets later, it felt like inside of his eyes that a screen had blinked on in his mind and showed the character creation screen.
Chase was amazed at the technology and quickly got to work on his character, choosing the option of the elf kind of character. He chose his settings and soon became a thing of beauty and grace- a high elf of immense power, he seemed.
The land he materialized in after creating his character was grand--the structures high and made of white marble that had never been before seen by anyone other than the wealthy. Other forms moved in the area, minding there own business. Others looked at the pavilion as Chase entered the game; obviously others that had entered the game before him.
As if she had been there the entire time, a female elf avatar pops up behind him with a surprised squeak. Bell; from the color of green in her eyes that matched the real deaf girl. Hair--it was a different change for her--laid on her head, pink, and pulled back into a ponytail. She seemed to have chosen the same race as him--but instead of a sword, a staff was on her back.
She watches his hands as they move and pats her ears. Shock registers on her features, and she uncertainly nods her head, "Voices... can't... but other sounds, can. Must be... game?"
Bell rubs her head before nodding, "Feels... like inside my head, they are... playing the noises? I just know... somehow," she takes a hesitant step forward before she begins to look around. "Inside the game... pretty,"
Chase looked around. It was a very pretty game. He took out his sword and gave it a few practice swings. He decided he didn't like it and so he took out his other weapon- a lethal looking bow with ebony-fletched arrows.
Bell trots off of the player spawn point. As she looked around, the more apparent it seemed as to what class a player belonged to depending on their beginner equipment. "Chase... What do we do?"
Chase shrugged and signed, "I don't know. Perhaps we should start attacking them? It doesn't seem right but... it's not like it'll actually kill them, right?"
She grabs her staff and tilts it side to side, "I don't think... I'd do very good in a fight right now," she nervously admits. "They've been here longer than us..."
