She could feel her legs struggling to keep their even pace. She was slowing down little by little, losing speed. Her breath was dry, fast and shallow. Her pulse jumped. ‘This isn’t happening to me. It couldn’t! I’m just an average girl! There’s nothing special about me! Why me? Why would he choose me?’ she thought to herself. She ducked down a narrow alleyway, and then kept running. “Help! Somebody help me!” she screamed desperately, though due to the lack of air in her lungs, her plea wasn’t very loud. She could hear the man’s footsteps thundering closer, the sound bouncing off the walls around her. She risked a glance over her shoulder at the man pursuing her. He was dressed in all black clothing; black leather gloves, black pants, and a black leather jacket. She could tell that he was built strongly; through the leather jacket she could see that he had thick, muscled arms.
She quickly turned her attention forward again and felt her heart drop, not ten feet away the alleyway ended, a high, chain link fence blocking the way. She looked around desperately, searching in vain for another way out, but finding nothing, just the smooth walls of the buildings surrounding her. She had to choice to stop running, she turned slowly, and she realized the man had stopped running a while ago. He was now walking towards her, a cruel smirk lifting the corners of his lip. His slow, steady footsteps echoed around her, making her dizzy with fear. Her dark brown hair stuck to her face and neck in strands, her body was covered in sweat. Her green eyes flashed wildly. She noticed a glint of light off of something in the man’s hand. She stared in alarm at the knife. “Please, I don’t know why you’re chasing me! I don’t have any money!” she stammered, her voice cracking as tears welled up in her eyes. She took a step back, her body flattened against the cold steal link fence, and she grasped it with her hands, trying to remain calm.
He chuckled slowly, the sound menacing, making a shiver pass over her spine. “Honey, I don’t want no money,” he drawled, his voice low and raspy. He took slow steps towards her, his eyes washing over her body, taking note of what she was wearing, what she might be thinking, and how she would react. His golden eyes flashed, was that humor in his eyes? He had been watching this girl for nearly a month now, learning her schedule, observing her life, every little detail about her. When he had found her walking alone, downtown in the middle of the night, he knew he had his chance. He had begun to follow her, being very obvious that he was. When she had picked up her pace, he did the same. This went on until they were running; he was herding her to this part of town, knowing the city backwards and forwards. “I want you.”
His words made her knees collapse ever so slightly and she gripped harder onto the fence, holding herself up. Her body was shaking, beads of sweat rolling down her face. The ground began to tilt beneath her, making her dizzy. “Please… don’t do this, you can still walk away!” she pleaded urgently, meeting his eyes. Only then did she notice the color of his eyes, they were gold, not yellow, but pure gold. The ground rushed up to meet her and she felt her vision darken, and then everything went black.
The man walked up to her, watching her, her body crumpled on the ground, unconscious. “Humans, they scare to easy…” he mused to himself, clucking his tongue. He bent and slung the girl over his shoulder, turned, and headed back the way they had come.
