Gallon was a well known knight within the kingdom of Shard. He was the perfect example; served at the kings side for twenty years, and spent thirty before he had been invited beside the throne. When his time came close to expiring, the King told him to mold an apprentice to take his place. Gallon knew that his time was just long enough to do what his king wished, so he left the castle to find a child to begin training.
He found one; and then another. The second was an accident, but deep in him Gallon knew that he just couldn't leave a child on the streets of Shard. So, he took them both as his disciples. The second, as unexpected as he was, was welcomed, but thought wary of.
The boy had flax-colored hair; a pale imitation of blonde, and green eyes that were close to being considered blue--and were almost as emotionless as his face. He was eleven, a little older than the standard age for joining as he did. Nise, as Gallon renamed him, was the quietest squire among all the loud and rowdy bunch. Some joked that he would be better off training to be an assassin, and not something so noble as a knight.
Gallon would wave them off and continue on his way, training both of his students with a firm hand. There was no room for failure; they were to be the best. He would turn them both into something worthy of the kings eyes, even more than he himself had been in his younger years.
Gallon had brought them to the castle barracks at different times. He didn't know how either would react to the other, but somewhere he hoped that both... someday, would be an unforgettable pair. So, on the first day with two apprentices, he left them together to get to know each other before either would begin training.
Nise had only strayed from his cot around midday, and that was when someone turned it over and forced him to get out so they could clean. He left the warm rooms and ventured outside, looking around with that dull look that showed absolutely nothing about what was on his mind. Which is why, as a foot soldier passed him by, the man threw a few dirty words at him with a laugh while carrying on. The blonde just threw him a look before carrying in the other direction, looking at his new surroundings that he didn't have a chance to look at yesterday.
