Nikolai didn't know what to say to her, she was always easy to talk to except for now when the warmth of her body continued to distract him. It wasn't that he wanted her so much as he wanted to know her, be near her, see what her younger, newer eyes saw.

Avi watched him go curiously. She wondered how involved the man was in all this. The mafia and the gangs... Fairfield was a dangerous place. She'd always thought she already knew that, but lately she was witnessing first hand just how wrong she was. The danger had always been in her imagination, but now it was staring her in the face.
