"Then don't," Dyami said. "I can show you what living really is."

She looked up at him, her eyes flickering in indecision. Finally, she gave a sigh. "Okay. I'll do it."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami broke into that broad, boyish grin of his. He offered her his hand and gestured toward the horse with his other. "My lady?"

Hannah accepted his hand and stood up, brushing off her now dirt-stained wedding gown. "Where will we go?"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami shrugged. "Anywhere. This is the New World, right? It doesn't belong to you, but it is full of possibilities."

"Where do you live?" she asked.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami paused. "With the rest of my tribe," he said. He wasn't sure he trusted her enough to give up their location yet.

[~echo~]

She understood his meaning and nodded. "Right. Well, I suppose we should get started."

(There should be some huge search that goes on for her and when James finally finds her, he and Dyami should have some decisive battle.)

Dyami gave a throaty laugh and then hopped up easily onto the mare's back. "This is Kateri," he said, patting her neck.

Hannah smiled and patted the horse. "Hello, Kateri."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Kateri nickered quietly, but she seemed to like the girl, which was more than most strangers. Dyami smiled and offered her his hand. "Up you come."

Hannah took his hand and swung up onto the horse behind him. "I've never ridden bareback before..."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"You'll be fine," Dyami told her. "Just hang on tight."

Hannah bit her lip but eventually put her arms around his waist, trying to get a secure grip.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami clicked his tongue and Kateri swayed into a slow walk. He didn't want to scare Hannah again by taking her across the fields at a gallop.

Hannah couldn't think of anything else to say, so she fell into an uncomfortable silence, left to her thoughts. She wondered if the man had any ulterior motives for stealing her away from Jamestown, and what he knew about James Ewing.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami directed Kateri toward a lake that he knew about an hour's travel, on horseback, from his village. He swung down easily from the horse and then offered his hand to the young woman.

Hannah took his hand and got down, looking over the lake. "It's beautiful," she said softly. "I never really saw much nature while I was in England."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I imagine not." Dyami gave her an odd look. He'd heard about the 'city' England, where the white men came from. Despite his words, he found it difficult to imagine what such a crowded, dirty place would look like. Still, from the little he did know, he had no desire to visit.

Hannah looked over the lake as she pondered her turn of events. On the one hand, she was relieved that she wouldn't have to be with that horrid man anymore, but she was also cautious and scared. She didn't know Dyami, or this new land she was in.
