"Relax," Dyami said softly. He could feel the tenseness in her body. "I will not hurt you."

She tried to, blinking down at the horse. to try and calm her down. "What do you know about Ewing?" she asked quietly.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami's body stiffened, the shift probably very acute to her, what with their bodies touching. Though she couldn't see, his eyes darkened and his lips pursed. "Enough," he said curtly.

Hannah felt him stiffen and she blinked, not willing to press at the moment. She did want to later, though, perhaps when he was more amiable. Instead, she let out a breath. "What is it like, living as you live?"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami was silent for awhile, his breathing steady as his horse's steps. Then he said, "I don't know. What is it like living as you do? It's different."

Hannah gave a small laugh. "Well, it is certainly different in England than in Jamestown. Very different."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami took a long while to think, trying to imagine her life. "We're free," he said slowly. "You people--you are all trapped. You don't know what it's like to run with wolves or beneath the wings of an eagle. You don't know the song of the wind, or the great beauty everything around you has to offer. You're blind."

She gazed down at the horse, trying to understand his point of view. "Here, it seems everything is so... wild. Nothing is civilized as it is in England, except perhaps in Jamestown." She blinked and shook her head. "I don't know.. I just miss my family back home."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I can understand that," Dyami murmured. "Family is important." Even if he only had one person in his, she meant the world to him.

[~echo~]

"My father was a drunkard, and he left us when my youngest sister was not born yet. I'm glad he's gone. But my mother and sisters... I took this indenture because I hoped I might be able to help them. But now I can't."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami allowed the mare to keep walking, but his own motioned seemed to all but stop. "Why?"

"I can't go back to Jamestown now," she said as though it were obvious. "James would no doubt think I was involved in my own capture, and he'd beat me, and never let me out of the indenture. Then I couldn't get my own land and raise some money for them to come over here."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Dyami grimaced. "I am sorry. I... I didn't realize." His innocence in the matter rang true in his voice, as did his guilt.

[~echo~]

"No, no. You can't have known," she replied gently, though she felt a bit sad at the prospect of not seeing her family again.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Maybe I can help, though," Dyami said. "If my people hold you for ransom, maybe Ewing will not think you were involved in your escape. He will think we took you against your will."

[~echo~]

She thought for a moment. That would mean she would have to go back... but then she could have a chance of helping her family. "I don't know..."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"It's your choice, Hannah of London," Dyami said. "My actions have put your loved ones in danger, and perhaps yourself. I had not thought of that when I took you from Jamestown."

[~echo~]

"What if..." she paused and but her lip. "What if you did hold me ransom, an I went back just long enough to take the money and send it. It's not like he needs it anyways... then I could escape again."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I would be happy to help you escape again," Dyami said, giving her a sly grin. He'd steal anything from Ewing a hundred times over.

Hannah smiled. "Then perhaps we should make a plan."
