Her dazzling blue eyes were fixed on his "i promised his mother i would take care of him, i dont break my promises." She said her eyes fixed with determination.

"You're a good person," Phoenix said. "Alter ego or no."

She smiled at him "thank you" she coughed again this time her chest hurt and blood got on the napkin in her hand

Phoenix stared at the blood on the napkin for a second before looking away. "I'll find a way to help you," he said.

She looked back up at him "if you find a way ill take it but up to this point in my decaying life ive never found anything

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"How much longer do you think you have?" Phoenix asked quietly.

"A month at max" she said knowing that pain was probably heart failure.

Phoenix looked down at his hands. What must it be like to know your life is ending? That would never happen to him. He'd go on living forever and ever. "I'll help you," he promised. "I swear it."

She hurt inside, her chest hurt and her head hurt. She knew she was going to die and she wasnt going to hold him to helping her, she knew that there was probably nothing out there to help her.

Phoenix reached out and took her hand, giving it a squeeze. "We'll figure this out," he said.

She didnt know why but she just did it she leaned forward and hugged him embracing him tightly, at least she knew if she did die he would have Max to keep him company "thank you" she said

Phoenix stiffened slightly, unused to the intimate human contact. Really, he'd been alone most of his life. Eventually, though, he wrapped his arms around her and gave her a tight hug. "You're welcome," he whispered.

She smiled and then once the hug was broken she did her best to smile at him

Phoenix smiled back at her and then got to his feet. "I have something I need to do," he said. "You should stay here with Max."

"Alright, when do you think youll be back?" She asked worry clouding her gaze

Phoenix grinned at her, thought it looked forced. "I can travel in time, remember?" he said. "I'll be back before you can count to three."

She chuckled and nodded "alright" she said

"Back in a flash," Phoenix said. He waved to her, and a second later he vanished from sight.

She nodded and waved to him then when he disappeared she stood up and walked to get some water.

In reality, it was more like five seconds, but Phoenix reappeared not too long later. His clothes were singed and he was limping slightly, but there was a smile on his face. "Well, that was fun," he chuckled.
