The palace was beautiful; simple and medieval, but beautiful nonetheless. However, there was something missing in its empty dormitories and halls. There were only a few maids, and they steered clear of the two children living in the household. They had lived a majority of their lives not seeing one another, but today was the day that they would finally come face to face after thirteen years.
The beauty with long white hair stared out of her window, nervously nibbling on her lip as she trailed fingertips along the satin curtain of her room. She watched as citizens, lords, and ladies from the other two kingdoms pooled into the courtyard, unable to enter the throne room until the preparations were ready. But was he ready? He wasn't so sure.
Somewhere in the home, he knew that his brother would be floating around, no doubt antsy and excited to finally have some company.
The younger prince bounced from his room, his black boots thudding against the carpeted hallway. He ruffled his auburn hair and smiled- today was the day that the castle would be opened up! Of course, he knew that it would happen someday, but he hadn't been entirely certain when and so the years had passed agonizingly slow.
But the day was here! Kenzie would finally see his older brother, too, even though they had lived in the same castle all their life. Ashley was a bit of a recluse. Kenzie tried his hardest to communicate, but the lack of response made him more or less give up.
He ran down the stairs, sliding down the bannister and landing lightly on his feet. Excitement sparkled in his sandy eyes. The order hadn't been given yet, but it could be any moment.

The trumpets blared and the announcer stood outside the doors, head held high and arms straight at his sides.
"The coronation will begin momentarily. Please enter the hall at a tranquil pace." He called with a controlled, proper voice, and the crowd murmured in intrigue while following his gentle orders.
The white haired boy inhaled another preparatory breath, noticing his inhalation shuddering and uneven. He felt the need to vomit rising, and he rested a delicate, pale hand on his stomach, the soft material of his shirt coming in contact with his cold skin. Surrounding him were layers of ornate beautiful ice.
Kenzie grinned and hopped from foot to foot. He was wearing one of his nice suits, especially made for this event. It was trim and light grey, the hem of his suit dotted with black. He had a white shirt on beneath, which was pressed to perfection. Although his hair refused to lay flat, it didn't look bad.
This was an agonizing wait, knowing that he could actually talk to others for once!

Ashley turned and looked at the door, biting a pink lip before nodding and walking to the door, resting a gloved hand on the knob. It wasn't his favorite color, since he wasn't a dark person, but he was forced into the clothes he now wore; a black turtle neck, a black jacket, black pants, black shoes. He winced. His pale skin and white hair seemed to glow against the dark backdrop. He looked back at the window before nodding once and exiting his room, walking calmly and gracefully down the hall and toward the throne room, hands clasped in front of himself.
The crowd mingled in the throne room, all giggling and gossiping about how the day would go. The eldest prince's brother wasn't the only one who hadn't been able to see the young man; they hadn't, either, and they were all a little excited to see how he had grown and whether or not he looked as magical as everyone rumored him to be. But along with gossip about his appearance, they also wondered why he was always trapping himself in the castle. Rumor had it that he didn't even let his family see him. So, why?
Kenzie was absolutely awestruck by so many people gathered in the throne room. And everything looked so cheerful! It was a total change from the atmosphere he'd grown up in. He nearly clapped his hands together in excitement. His brother was due any moment and he felt a stirring of nervousness in his belly. Would his brother like him? They used to be close, but that was so long ago.

The announcer connected his staff with the marble flooring of the throne room three times before speaking in that same formal tone. "The coronation will begin with the arrival of Prince Ashley."
The boy gulped and stopped walking. All he needed to do was round the corner and then he'd be there. He felt his heart rate escalate and he rested a gloved hand upon his chest. He felt like passing out right now... What if something bad happened? What if... his powers were found out? He needed to- no, he couldn't go back there. He had to be strong- for Kenzie.
He rounded the corner and stepped down the stairs toward the area where the priest and other officials were located, head held high and stance proper and classy, though inside he just wanted to run away.
Kenzie's smile widened at the sight of his brother. He looked just as he had when they were children, only..older. Matured. He clapped with the rest of the guests. His spot had been reserved at the front of the crowd, where he ought to be. Kenzie really wanted to go to Ashley's side and talk to him, but now wasn't the time for that.

The coronation went smoothly, though Ashley was stressing all the while, and afterward there was... well, the party.
Ashley tried to stick to the walls, to look inconspicuous because he felt out of place, but the people just kept coming. They kept coming toward him and congratulating him, and he felt his stress levels rising. Why couldn't they just leave him alone? He cleared his throat and headed over to his brother but stopped when seeing him with someone else. He frowned and watched them for a moment before turning toward the doors. Maybe no one would notice if he just slipped out...
"Ashley!" Kenzie's voice cut through the crowd when he spotted his brother. He couldn't be leaving yet, could he? The party had just begun! "Er, I mean, Your Majesty!"
[ is the person he's talking to supposed to be Alex? ]

[ your choice ]
He stopped, but didn't turn to look at his brother for a few moments, trying to keep himself together. His hands turned into clenched fists underneath dark gloves at his sides, and he slowly turned, looking at him with gentle, large blue eyes. "Yes?"
[ well..I wouldn't know how else to bring him in, so.. xD ]
Kenzie smiled and pushed through the crowd, apologizing when he bumped into others. The stranger he'd been conversing with followed at a more leisurely pace, his lips upturning in a slight smile.
He stopped in front of his older brother, "Um, well, how are you?" Kenzie inquired, anxiousness rising up in his chest.

"...Fine." He gave a slight smile, though his eyes were narrowed. He looked at the male strolling up behind his brother. "Who is this?" His tone wasn't exactly curious so much as guarded. He had an inkling suspicion something was going on, and he wasn't in the mood to deal with it right now.
"Pardon my intrusion," The male smiled and crossed one hand over his chest, giving Ashley a respectful bow, "My name is Alexsander Sarcoski, youngest prince of the Southern Isles. It is an honor you meet you, King Ashley."
Kenzie smiled and nodded, looking back and forth between Alexsander and his brother, "I sort of ran into him and we started talking."

He blinked and looked at his brother before reaching out and taking his hand gently. "Excuse us." He spoke to Alexsander before pulling his brother to a private corner. "What are your plans with him?" He asked with narrowed blue eyes.
The slight accusation in his voice made Kenzie blink, "What are you talking about, Ashley? I never said I had any "plans" with him. We've simply been talking about things." Where did this behavior come from?

He didn't know why, but he never really trusted men. They were animals. And, granted, he was a man too- but he didn't consider himself to be an animal. It was all really confusing, but in the end the only thing that mattered was that he wasn't surprised he didn't feel comfortable around this 'Alexsander' guy.
"I want you to stay away from him, that's all." He murmured and turned, heading to the door before he stopped. How selfish did that sound? He should have just stated the truth. He turned his head slightly, so he spoke over his shoulder. "In fact... Why don't you two go ahead and do what you want... Stay away from me."
Kenzie's eyes widened and there was hurt reflecting in them. He wouldn't have been able to describe the feeling even if he had to. Ashley had locked himself away for years and they had yet to have a proper conversation...but here he was, telling Kenzie to stay away. It hurt worse than the first time, because this time he'd actually said the words. He swallowed his hurt and took a tentative step forward, "Ashley..w-wait.."
Alexsander watched the brothers converse from afar and he raised his eyebrows. He couldn't catch what had been said, but it didn't look kind, even from an outsider's perspective.

He shook his head. "I said stay away!" He shouted, throwing his arm out in a dramatic sign to stop the boy's movement, and stopped when he heard horrified gasps. He opened his eyes, one at a time, and gasped, pressing against the door as he saw the wall of jagged ice, reaching a good five feet in height. He shook his head, looking down at his hands. When had his glove came off? Maybe when he had been in such a flurry of emotion and pulled his brother aside, he had taken them off, or something, he didn't... That wasn't something to focus on right now. He couldn't stay here- he couldn't be called a freak and possibly tortured because of his curse. He sprang from the room, rushing down the hall and out of the doors. The crowd outside screamed with smiles, applauding the new king, and he covered his face with his hands, turning and rushing out to the forest.
His lips parted in surprise as the ice seemed to shoot out from his brother's hand. Was this...magic? He didn't even have time to process it because Ashley had taken off, "Ashley, come back!" He called, running after him without a second thought.
