Did you know that calico/tortoiseshell cats are very unlikely to be male? If they are, they have a genetic defect called Klinefelter's, where their sex gene are XXY. In cells, only one X is active, but not necessarily the same one. The alternating active X's create the color pattern seen on calicos and tortoiseshells. (And I'll have you know I typed that up off the top of my head, not drawing words off the internet lol)
