The sweet glow of the ballroom lit the area like a sun kissed beach, the blue tiled floor a pale reflective surface like the light waters that separated the horizon from the earth. People glided and twirled across it, the dresses an array of peaches and yellows. They were there for the beginning of the season; a time when girls of age came into society. This particular party was for that very reason. A lords niece, a child of his sisters, that was under his care had reached that very age. She was kept with him, shaking hands with a variety of people that she had never known before.
Her hair was down in a tumble of gold, her bright wine eyes scanning each and every beings face that came up to her. Her dress matched the theme of the room, a long light blue with a white sash, her long bangs braided to one side and held in by a seashell clip that she had fashioned a few months ago. She kept her lips tilted up into a smile, polite and endearing to those that came up to her. She had to be, of course. If she didn't lord knows what repercussions would strike back at her later when this whole thing was over.
In the near distance, a cold-eyed man watched motionlessly. This child.... her dead mother.... He paused his thoughts and took the girl's features in. She looked so much like her late mother [whatever her name is xD] Eldon took a dainty sip of punch and then made his way over to the girl, waiting to shake hands with her. What was her name again... Hope? Something like that, anyways. The line moved rather quickly and the sallow-faced man was soon face to face with his past meeting his future.
She looks up at him, the corners of her pale lips faltering. His presence felt strange; like a bad dream. She sticks her hand out to him politely, her attitude reflecting her father much more in that respect than her mother. Polite to a degree--not over-welcoming to those that she didn't trust or see as a threat. "Well met," she greets without missing a beat.
"May I inquire as to who you might be, sir?" She asks, quickly letting her hand fall in front of her. She grips it with her other hand, remaining still as a rock.
He noticed her wary tone, and, with a stiff back, he bowed again. "Congratulations, my lady," he murmured, stalking off.
The man who was standing beside Hope, her butler, smiled down at her as the flow of people wanting to meet her slowed. "He's nice," he commented shrewdly. He remembered Eldon quite well.
