The Fey folk were never known for their kindness. Not toward Mundanes, not toward other Downworlders, not even toward each other. They were generally a cold race of creature.
Marnie was no exception.
Sure, she was beautiful in the vicious way that most Fey were. She had tan skin and long caramel brown hair, but this elf was anything but sunshine and flowers. She wasn't outright rude, but there was an indifference about her that mundanes always identified as unapproachable. She worked in a small flower shop on the edge of town. It was nothing extravagant, but elves always dealt best with nature. The flowers grown there were the healthiest and most beautiful around.
Marnie tied the apron around her middle and headed to the front of the store, flipping the sign to OPEN.
Reagan slung her sports bag over her shoulder and started down the street towards her place, making a mental to-do list as she went.
She needed to find her soccer uniform for the game tomorrow, wash her baseball uniform for the game on Saturday, pick up her dry cleaning for work next week, and.... She knew she was missing something from her list. Oh, right! Flower shop. She remembered, as she saw the shop sign come into view.
She picked some dirt from between her nails, as she walked in. Reagan looked around the shop, as her eyes adjusted to being inside.
"Actually, I could use your help." Reagan turned towards the woman. "I am looking for a flower known as..." She pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket. "Aconitum lycoctonum." Her eyes narrowed, wondering if she pronounced it right. "Here." She thrust the piece of paper at the owner.
Marnie walked over to her and took the piece of paper. She let her eyes wander over the flower and raised an eyebrow, "Wolfsbane?" she questioned, sounding amused.
"Is that the same thing?" Reagan asked with a smile. "I really don't know anything about this kind of stuff..." She trailed off. "It's for a friend. I accidentally killed his...whatever it's called...while house-sitting for him..."
Reagan looked at the plant. "I only have to keep it alive for another week... Then, its real owner will be back to take excellent care of it..." She thought out loud, not really knowing how she was going to accomplish such a feat.
Marnie checked the plant, making sure the leaves and such didn't look too wilted. Her plants didn't wilt. Not while she was taking care of them, "Heh, well, please try to keep this one alive. Plants take a lot of work too."
"I do try to take care of them..." Reagan mumbled. "I'm just not that good at it. I never know the amount of sun, water, or anything else, needed to keep it alive... It is like I'm trying to juggle with no hands..." She paused a minute before adding, "In fact, I'd probably have better luck attempting that..."
