You say I would make a better liar; I never face the music when it's dire; I breathe disaster, ever after; Don't pull away from me now. -Ever After by Marianas Trench
Kyne slipped out from under the covers and grabbed his shirt on the floor. He hardly even glanced at the girl sleeping on the bed. He strained his ears, listening for the sounds of her parents moving around downstairs. They must still asleep. Good. He tugged his shirt on over his head, picked up his leather jacket, and moved silently to the window. He slid it open, and then climbed out. Getting back to the ground was no problem; he'd faced worse climbs out of windows. Luckily, he'd never had to sneak out of his own window. His father didn't give a crap where he went.
He jogged away from the house, not looking back. He didn't really care what the girl's reaction would be when she woke up. She might be heartbroken, or it might be exactly what she was expecting. He'd met both kinds of girls. Some of them thought they would be different, that they would be the one; others knew exactly what they were getting into. He headed straight to school, not caring that he was wearing the same clothes as yesterday.

Cecelia leaned her head against the car's cool window, slowly closing her eyes. Music thumped in her ears, as she twirled the cord connecting her earbuds to her IPod around her finger. The music droned out the loud voices of her mother and younger sister, though she did catch snippets of it. She raised her head slightly, to eye the two warily, before letting her head fall against the window. The two had been arguing about some guy; her younger sister had been whining that her friends were allowed to go out on vacation with their boyfriends and her mother was being completely unfair in not allowing her to go along with her boyfriend. Her mother's answer was always the same, "We don't have enough cash to send you there. And what if you came back pregnant?!" This would lead to another slew of arguments, usually ending with either one in a foul mood.
It never worked out for Cecelia's favor.
Though she didn't really do much with the little crowd of friends she had, she always seemed to be on her mother's bad side. "You aren't spending enough time with your friends! Get off the computer and go out!" Was her always cry, as she saw her daughter leaned against the couch, her computer propped up on her lap. Cecelia would be forced out of the house, her phone in her pocket, and sent to wander around what little the town did. What she had learned to do, was just lay low and the storm would pass over. It had been working for quite some time, though she knew it was bound to end sometime...
Her sister and mother had quieted down -though had left such a heavy atmosphere, Cecelia was sure she would be squashed by it- finally. Cecelia shifted in her seat, as she saw her school slowly appear over the hill. This was a great way to start off the day. Once her mother pulled over to the curb, her younger sister jumped out of the car without a second look. Cecelia murmured a goodbye, before stepping out of the car, shouldering her backpack. She started to walk to the entrance of the school, when she bumped into Kyne. "Sorry," she muttered, keeping her head down, walking around him.

Kyne glanced at her, his eyebrows raised. He didn't say anything, though. He just kept walking.

She hadn't been surprised when she didn't hear anything from him -if she could have heard anything really. She was part of the nobody group, the ones who weren't picked on, since they didn't shove their intelligence in others faces. They were just a small part of the scenery. She was smart, yes, though she didn't care to actually try in school. Why raise the bar in this kind of school?
As she got to her locker, an arm slung over her shoulder, the smell of cherries instantly hitting against her nose. An earbud was popped out of her ear, and ignoring her sound of irritation, her best friend said, "So, I saw you walking with Kyne Hollingsworth today." She drew out his last name, leaning her head against the locker, her eyes closed.
Cecelia rolled her eyes. "Right, if by walking you mean running into him and then walking away from him, then yes. Well spotted," she replied dryly, stuffing her books in her backpack.
"Oh but this is surely destiny! I can just see you two right now," She sighed dramatically. A snort was all she got as a reply. "Fine then, be that way. Though I'm just saying...~"
Cecelia shot her a glare, slinging her backpack over her shoulder again. "Listen, you predicted that I would end up with Jack, Phillip, that transfer student, and Ralph," she said, ticking the names off on her fingers. She put a hand on her hip, her lips pressed into a thin line. "What makes you think that'll happen? I have a less chance with him than the others, for Christ's sake!"
Her friend shot her a grin and a wink. "I dunno, I just feel good about this." She slung an arm over Cecelia's shoulder, nudging her with her hip. "Trust me~"

Kyne's locker was close enough that he overheard their conversation. He didn't really mean to; Cecelia had been right: for the most part, she was beneath his notice. Really, everyone was beneath his notice except those who actively sought his attention. He didn't care much for anyone or anything, unless a girl was interested in sleeping with him or making out. Hey, everyone has their vices. Kyne figured he was such a failure that it didn't matter if he slept around.
He grabbed his English notebook and swung his locker shut, then walked down the hallway past Cecelia and her friend.

Well sh*t. It looked like he had overheard their conversation. Not that she cared. Obviously.
Her friend leaned closer to Cecelia -Cecelia fought down the urge to snap at her friend to stop bathing herself in perfume- and whispered, "Please act appropriately once we get into our classroom. I don't want you mooning over him, got it?"
Cecelia shrugged off her arm, getting a little irritated at all of this. "Yeah, sure. I'll try not to," she replied sarcastically, picking up her pace, leaving her friend behind. She was just getting tired of all these girls falling head over heels in love with guys like him. It was disgusting really; they were literally throwing themselves at his feet. What did they see in him?
She settled down in her desk, tossing her backpack underneath it. Popping in the second earbud, she closed her eyes, crossing her hands over her chest, head down. There was still ten minutes left until class started, plenty of time to take a quick nap.

Kyne took his seat once he was in the classroom and slouched in his chair, his arms crossed over his chest. He stared at the surface of his desk, his eyes tracing the scratches and pencil marks there. One said f*** you high school, and he could tell someone had tried hard to get rid of it, but failed. Another was simply a poorly drawn heart. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. Why was he even here? It wasn't like high school was going to improve his life at all. He was bound straight for hell.

The shrill bell rang, signaling everyone to take their seats or get booted to the principal's office. If the teachers actually cared... Cecelia jumped in her seat, the sound dragging her out of her peaceful daydream. Groaning, she yanked the earbuds out of her ears, coiling them up and tossing it into her backpack. Though she didn't precisely care for school, there was still the issue of her mother... She shuddered at that thought.
Once the announcements were said over the intercom, the teacher began the lesson. Cecelia leaned her cheek against her fist, her eyes wandering around the classroom. This school was basically a joke, there was no need for her to even be here. Her eyes found the back of a certain Brit and she quickly looked away, her jaw clenching. Christ, her friend was getting to her...
She could hear the quiet giggles of the girls in her class, no doubt oogling over Kyne. Rolling her eyes, she tried to focus in on the teacher's words.

Kyne didn't even noticed the girls a few rows ahead of him. They were twisted in their seats, staring at him and whispering to each other. Almost everyone knew that he'd left school with Melissa yesterday. And when Kyne Hollingsworth left school with a girl, there was pretty much only one reason. The rest of the juniors, and if they were brave, some underclassmen, would be all over Melissa later.
He glanced up when the teacher entered the room. For the first time, he glanced around the classroom, his eyes falling briefly on Cecelia. He studied her, trying to remember if he'd ever heard her name. Not that it mattered. Her friend seemed very intent on them getting together, though. The thought made him smirk.

"Don't they ever stop," she muttered, frowning at the girls. What was it with girls and gossiping all the time? Was it in their DNA? Cecelia mused over that question, a common thing she had started doing since she had gotten to this school; if you try and distract yourself with silly little things and try to make sense of that, it could be quite entertaining.
Though there was one thing she didn't understand. As she blinked, coming back to Earth and giving up on trying to figure out the last question, she realized she was being stared at. Frowning at Kyne, she narrowed her eyes at him. What did he want...?

Kyne met her eyes and gave a slow smile, the kind that drove most girls crazy. It wasn't really his intention, but it did anyway. Then he looked away and flipped open his notebook. Still, he spent the rest of class wondering about the girl. She intrigued him. A girl who didn't swoon at the thought of him? It wasn't cockiness or anything, just personal experience. She seemed... more down to earth than any girl he'd ever met.

She raised an eyebrow at him, looking a little amused, as she tried to ignore the tiny stomach flip. Though the look disappeared into a scowl. He has a bigger ego than I thought... She thought to herself, snorting. Cecelia gave up on trying to figure out what the teacher was saying -it didn't even sound like English- and put her cheek on her fist again. This was getting a little boring, doing this day in and day out. She needed something exciting in her life, something that could take her out of this rut.

(Haha. Yeah... Twilight. )
When Kyne walked into chemistry and saw all the desks pushed together in pairs, he groaned. He knew what that meant. They'd all be paired with lab partners, probably for the rest of the semester. God, he just hoped he didn't get paired with one of the girls he'd slept with. That could get real messy. Best case scenario was he was paired with a guy. Which, of course, was unlikely, knowing teachers.

(You know that's the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of clichés. :3)
Cecelia slowly made her way into the chemistry classroom, already dreading what was to come. Her ability in most classes to actual get a passing grade was already little to none, though science was her kryptonite. As she saw the desks were pushed together, she let out a moan. The world really hated her apparently. She shifted the backpack to her other shoulder, glancing around the classroom. She recognized a couple of familiar faces, so that was a plus. At least she was-
You have got to be kidding me. He's in this class too? Granted there was only two chemistry classes all together, it was never in her favor. She just prayed that he would not be her lab partner. If she was, she would probably die, literally. She had seen how ferocious girls could get when "their man" was being threatened by another female.

Kyne's eyes went to the image projected on the whiteboard, showing the seating chart. He raised his eyebrows when he saw the name "Cecelia" next to his own. He had no clue who that was. Whoever it was, it was definitely a girl. Unless some guy's parents had been high enough to name their son "Cecelia." He doubted it. He walked to his desk and sat down, watching curiously to see who would sit beside him.

Yep. She was dead. Cecelia stared at the board, telling herself over and over again that this was a mistake. She could already hear the girls start to whisper, as they slowly started to figure out who was sitting next to Kyne. All at once, it became dead quiet, and Cecelia squeezed her eyes closed. They had figured it out... Ah well, time to face the music.
She stiffly walked over to where he sat, settling down in the chair next to him. She purposefully set her backpack down and started rooting around in it, like she was trying to find something. That was a laugh. Finally, she gave up trying to pretend like she had something to do and stared straight ahead, not making eye contact with Kyne. She raised her chin, narrowing her eyes at the girls who were starting to scowl at her. Target located. Cecelia was not about to back down because she had been chosen to be his partner. This is either really lucky, or my worst nightmare, she thought bitterly to herself.

(Haha, that line made me laugh. 'Time to face the music.' Because of the thread's title...)
Kyne raised his eyebrows at her. "So, you're Cecelia," he said. Well, that was two questions answer in one stroke. Not a girl he'd slept with... nor one that seemed to want to have sex with him. Interesting. This could either be the best lab partner he'd ever had, or the worst, depending on what she thought of him.

"Congrats, you can read on a first grade level," she said sarcastically, finally looking him in the eyes, "Please, tell me more. I'm sure you'll astound me every time." Cecelia couldn't help but be sarcastic, it was part of her personality, or so her friends told her. Sarcasm flew out of her mouth quicker than her mind could comprehend and reel it back.
