"The servants' quarters are downstairs," Rylan said. "Ask for Lacey. She'll get your sorted out."

Wren paused. "Thank you, Rylan." With that, she rushed downstairs. She asked the first servant she saw for Lacey.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Rylan grimaced and stepped out of the guest quarters. It seemed it would be empty for another couple of months or more. He walked down the hall to his own quarters, wondering if this was really a good idea. For her, maybe. But for him? He liked her too much to just accept her as his servant. Something would have to change.

Lacey helped Wren into her uniform, gave her something simple to eat, and then sent her to start learning the palace.

Once in his chambers, Rylan pulled out a book--a grand story about the olden days in Dorne--and settled down on his bed to read. His mind kept wandering, though, and in a little under an hour he'd gotten through a single chapter.

(Yeah. To the next morning? What exactly will her job be at the palace? Cleaning?)

Wren was up early the next morning, cleaning the floors in the main hallway of the palace.

Rylan passed her on his way to his dininghall. He paused, giving her a friendly smile. Would she completely embrace her role as a servant, or would she continue to be his friend as well?

Wren saw him and smiled, waving. "Hi, Rylan."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Rylan let out a quiet breath of relief. "How are you, Wren?" he asked.

"Well, thank you," she said. "I am happy that I have a job now."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I'm happy to be able to help," Rylan said. "I don't suppose... well, you know you aren't truly a servant in my eyes. Would you like to dine with me?"

Wren bobbed in a small curtsy. "I would be honored, Rylan, if you insist upon it." She seemed excited, though.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"In that case, I do," Rylan said. He grinned and offered his arm. "Just leave this stuff behind. I'll send another servant to collect it."

She wiped her hands off on her starched, white apron and took his arm, smiling. "Thank you for the invitation, Rylan."

"We need to make a stop first," Rylan said. "You can't very well go to breakfast in that."

She grinned self-consciously. "Right. Of course."

Rylan walked her back to the quarters he'd offered her before and pulled a dress out of the wardrobe. Not ridiculously elegant, but fit for a woman of high station, it was purple and silver.

She smiled. "Thank you," she said. "I'll change very quickly."
