Seems we have something to offer each other. The thought came unwanted into her mind and she shook her head. "Isaiah's always grumbling about having that house to himself, he'd probably jump for joy at a roommate." She was half jested, half hoping Aron might consider for even a fraction of a second that this was a serious offer.

Aron took a drink of his beer. "Good thing he has you," he said.

Valerie chuckled. "Lilah the doberman doesn't pay rent though."

Aron smiled slowly. "Lilah? That's cute."

Valerie laughed, "He thought so. If I could I would tell him it's a completely inappropriate name for a doberman."

"Because 'Valerie' is so much better," Aron pointed out.

She shrugged. "At least it's a little more fierce 'Lilah' sounds like a freaking flower."

"Well, I suppose Valerie does mean 'brave and strong,'" Aron said. "It still sounds pretty girly to me, though."

Valerie glared at him. "Unfortunately so." She finished her pizza, watching him as she did. What was it about him?

Aron gulped down the rest of his beer and tilted his head to look over at her. "You really aren't going to run from me?"

Valerie avoided his gaze for a moment then looked at him. "I'd rather be your friend."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Aron pushed the glass away and threw some cash down on the counter. "Come on," he said. "We should tend to that arm of yours." Without waiting for her to respond, he walked toward the door and pushed out into the street. A chill hung in the air that day, the sky overcast and threatening to snow. Aron zipped up his leather coat and glanced behind him to see if she was following.

Valerie scurried after him, clutching her jacket around him. She dared not speak, she was afraid if she did, he would change her mind and send her away her tail, literally, between her legs.

Aron put his hands in his jacket pockets and started toward his apartment. He didn't say a word. He just stared stonily ahead, still not sure if he was doing the right thing, for either of them.

Valerie waited patiently and silently for Aron to unlock the doors and lead her in, she stood uncomfortably just inside, waiting for his command. She had definitely spent too much time as a dog.

Once inside, Aron walked to the bathroom to get his first aid kit, and then returned to the living room. He gestured for her to sit down on the couch, figuring going to the bedroom wasn't the best idea right now. Not after last night.

Valerie sat on the couch and glanced down the hallway toward the bedroom. She had been pretending with herself that she did not remember what she had said when she was delirious with pain. Part of her cringed, wanted to hide away. Another part of her... liked her bravery, liked tiny squeeze in her chest when the delirium allowed her to admit she might have a crush on Aron. She pushed the thoughts away and focused on his hands as he prepared a few things.

Aron cleaned the wound again and check to see that there was no signs of an infection. "The stitches will have to be removed when it's healed," he told her. "I don't have those fancy dissolving ones."

Valerie openly winced. "Will you do it?"

Aron nodded. "Of course I will. Just don't scratch when it starts itching, okay?"
