Aron glanced over and, when he caught her eye, he could he couldn't look away. "What makes you so sure?"

"When we were with those others, you cared, you tried to get them to stop. You go to that bar and the man who works there likes you. It's not all about ripping the throats out of things." She paused a second. "And I can see it." She reached up and touched his forehead. "Here. You pinch your brows when you're worried." She touched the corner of his mouth. "Here. You smile when you're amused. These are not animal things Aron."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Aron remained still, starkly aware of her touch. "I don't feel human," he said quietly.

Valerie let her fingers trail down his neck to stop and place her palm on his chest. She looked at her hand as if debating what to do next. She scooted over and wedged herself against him, forcing him to let her in between his arm and his rib cage. She kept her arm resting on his torso and buried her head against the crook of his shoulder.

"Sometimes, neither do I. I eat kibble three times a day and drink out of a water bowl. Sometimes I just sit around and wait for people to give me orders because I've gotten so used to the 'sit', 'down', 'stay' life."

Aron hesitated before wrapping his arm around her and resting his cheek against the top of her head. "Can I tell you something?"

"Anything." Valerie mumbled, surprised he had wrapped his arm around her instead of shoving her off the pipes.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Sometimes, when I'm with you, I feel human again," Aron said quietly. "Sometimes, the emptiness fades and I actually feel the smiles. I don't remember the last time I've actually been happy."

Valerie willed herself to keep breathing but it didn't work, he breath stopped and her heart pounded. "I do too." She whispered against his collar bone.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Aron took a deep, shuddering breath. He lifted his head and looked down at her. "Would you hate me if I kissed you?" Given his reputation, he wasn't sure she'd be okay with it. He was still a player, a pig, even. The complete opposite of her. She was pure. He was the furthest thing from it.

Valerie wondered if he could feel her heart threatening to shatter through her sternum. She moved a little away from him and saw his walls threaten to come up. "I'd like that actually." She breathed, wishing her voice was stronger.

Aron lifted his hand and traced his thumb along her jaw. He stared into her eyes for what seemed like forever before he leaned down and pressed his lips gently against hers. He wasn't sure he'd ever given such a tender kiss. He was afraid of frightening her off, though, so he pulled back after a second.

Valerie whimpered at the loss before she even realized she had made the sound. She opened her eyes slowly and regarded him carefully. Her stomach was clenching and churning and her thighs felt heavy. "Can you..." She licked her lips and glanced away from him then back. "Can you do that again?"

A slow, amused smile spread on Aron's lips, but something else shone in his eyes. He brought his lips to hers again, his hand coming to rest on her hip. This time, he deepened the kiss, hoping it wasn't too much for her.

Valerie felt her body melt and wondered if she might fall to the ground in a pool. When he deepened the kiss her fingers on his chest clutched tightly at him and she pushed toward him.

A low rumbled sounded in the back of Aron's throat. Sort of a groan, but with an animalistic quality to it. He grabbed her sides and actually lifted her into his lap. Dangerous, but he managed to keep his balance on the beam. He held onto the vertical one to steady himself while his other hand pressed against her back, holding her against him.

Valerie moaned, clenching her thighs around his waist to keep from falling. Hesitantly, she reached up and curled her hands around his jaw.

Aron broke the kiss but kept his lips just barely touching hers, his breath coming out in ragged pants. His heart pounded against his ribs and a familiar longing thrummed in him, but it was different now. Stronger. He wanted to take her home and then take her in a different way, a way that she would never forget for as long as she lived. Her first time, he thought. For some reason, that scared him. Slow down. This is real. Move too fast, and he might lose her. "We might want to get down before we fall," he whispered against her lips.

"As long as I can keep kissing you." She mumbled breathlessly against his lips.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"You can kiss me as much as you want," Aron promised her. He lifted her again and set her beside him, his muscles easily handling her weight. A perk of being a werewolf. Then he got to his feet and offered her his hand. Getting down would be interesting with his head spinning the way it was.

This time Valerie took his hand without hesitation and tried to stay as close to him as possible as they climbed down the building, she didn't want to be away from, she didn't want to stop touching him.
