When they reached the bottom safely, Aron pulled her against him and gave her a quick kiss. At that point, his face was flushed from the cold and his hands were starting to go numb from hanging onto the metal supports, but he didn't care. He could stay out here all night if it meant she'd be with him. He was still afraid that, after tonight, she'd somehow disappear.

Valerie clung to Aron, silently pleading with him not to let her go. If he did, she was sure the only thing keeping her standing would break and she would fall to the earth and disappear.

Aron broke again and rested his forehead against hers. "Where did you come from?" he murmured. "The girl who spends most of her time as a dog somehow wandered into my life."

Valerie laughed softly. "And how did I end up with the wolf manhoe?" She looked up at him softly and smiled a little.

Aron lifted his head and grinned at her. "You just couldn't resist my good looks and charm."

Valerie giggled "or just how animal you are." She winked and grinned.

"I would have thought that was your least favorite part of me," Aron replied.

Valerie shrugged and glanced up at him sheepishly. "It might be a little bit sexy." She breathed.

"Well, all this sexiness is yours," he whispered, bending his head again. He placed his hand on a support beam behind her and used his body to press her up against it. The cold metal bit into his fingers, but he ignored it. "Just let me know if we're going too fast, okay?"

Valerie violently shook her head then pulled his face down to kiss him again, arching her body against his with a groan.

Aron kissed her for a long time before he pulled away again. "As nice as this is," he said, "I think my fingers are about to fall off." He let go of the beam and uncurled his stiff fingers. "Maybe we should... go back to my place." He hated the way that sounded, and he hoped she didn't pick up on it.

Valerie gave him a lopsided smile, took his hand and began to walk away from what she was sure was her favorite building in the entire world.

For some reason, Valerie's hand felt warmer than his. He could feel the heat despite the numbness in his fingers, and he gripped her hand almost desperately. "God I'm cold," he murmured. "You wouldn't mind if I shifted, right? I'll be warming as a wolf."

Valerie pulled him to her, gave him a peck on the lips then stood back. "Let's run!" And turned, her long tong hanging happily our of her Doberman jaws.

Aron shifted smoothly into a wolf and raced after her. It felt good to run again, and to run with someone else. He'd been alone for so long. In the darkness, his black form was hard to make out. A passerby might take him for a rather large black dog, so he wasn't worried about people freaking out about a wolf being in the city.

Valerie arrived just before he did, sitting obediently on the porch, waiting for him to come unlatch the door.

Aron glanced down the street in both directions before shifting back into a human in a swath of shadows near the building. He opened the door and let her in first before following her inside. It was slightly warmer in there, but the entire building wasn't heated. Just the units themselves.

Valerie wound around his legs like a cat before jumping up on the couch then changing. She grinned at him. "I hope you allow dogs on the couch."

Aron laughed and walked over to her after closing the door. He squatted down in front of her, a grin on his face. "I guess I can make an exception for you."
