Valerie's sobs stuttered to a stop and she looked up. Someone was in the house. She deftly and silently moved backwards, effectively hiding herself behind the door of the empty closet and peered around it.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The person turned away from the window, revealing his face to Valerie. He was a young-looking man, wearing a long black trench coat that hid the rest of his clothing. His black hair was spiked and--his most striking feature--his eyes were the metallic silver of a warlock.

Valerie curled away from him. She hated warlocks. But most importantly, what was he doing here?

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Suddenly, his head snapped toward the door of the bedroom, his eyes narrowing. He stared for a few seconds, just listening, and then he smiled. "It's okay, you can come out. I'm not going to hurt you."

Valerie curled back. Those very words made her not trust him. In man in this house could not be trusted, even it's manipulative, disappearing owner.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The man sighed. "Very well. I suppose you know Mr. Wynn? He sent me this about twenty minutes ago." He held up a slip of paper. "Now why would he do that?"

"Let me guess." Valerie said darkly. "It's instructions to tell me to go to hell and that he never wants to see me again. I kinda got that from all his shit being gone thanks." She stepped around the closet door.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The man raised his eyebrows. "Ah... no. I don't even know who you are. It says, 'Oregon.'"

Valerie's snorted and crossed her arms over her chest. "And what's that suppose to mean?"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"No idea," he said with a shrug. "But I doubt he'd leave me a message telling me he was moving to Oregon. I have a feeling he's in trouble."

Valerie cocked an eyebrow. "He's in trouble. Really?" She motioned at the space around them. "Kidnappers don't take their victims stuff with them." She reached out to touch the bed post in melancholy then jerked back. "He left. I don't think there's anything else to it."
She stepped forward, past the stranger to go outside.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"If that's truly what you think," he said. "But people don't up and disappear when they're in love."

Valerie burst out laughing so hard, clutching her side with one arm and holding herself up with her other hand on her knee. "Oh god! You must REALLY be full of it! That player was never in love with anyone. I'd be shocked if he knew what love was." She glared at the mysterious man. "I'm not to keen to say he's a missing person. He's just an a**."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I've known Mr. Wynn for a long time," he said. "He doesn't believe in anything but one-night-stands. Now, I assume he invited your back here, which means you meant something more to him." He paused and glanced at the piece of paper in his hand. "I don't care if you accompany me, but I'm going to Oregon to try and find him. It's what he wants."

Valerie stared at him for a long time. "I'm not sure he'd want me to come with you." She said quietly. He heart felt broken enough, what if she went to find him and he didn't want her to? She'd never feel whole again.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Very well." He walked to the door and lifted his hand. A card appeared between his fingers. "Give me a call if you chance your mind."

"How?" She stepped toward him, half considering going right now.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

He grabbed her hand and placed the business card in it. "The name's Burn Badrick. My address is on there, too, but I'd prefer if you called before you showed up."

Valerie nodded. "I'll let you know. There's something I've got to do first if I decide to come."
