(I need points deducted from me for this thread)
[Note: This is sort of based off of Maleficent. Just saying]
Long ago, there existed the Fey and the Humans. For a majority of the time, they got along peacefully enough, and respected their boundaries. However, like any neighbors, there were sometimes disagreements. The humans were often jealous of the magical Fey, for their lands were always lush and abundant since the Fey cultivated nature. The humans, on the other hand, would destroy it, using nature to create their tools, ships, and a large manner of other materials (But we shall not go into that today). The humans were also jealous of the Fey's powers, because the Fey had knowledge of the world's magic, and the humans argued that this gave them an unfair advantage. However, the Feys only used it in defense against the humans, so the subject was rarely touched upon. Openly at least.
Now, this brings us the the chiefs among the Fey: The Queens of the Seasons. It was they who governed the workings of nature, controlling the winters and summers of the world. There was the Queen of Autumn, considered the season of preparation and slumber. The Queen of Winter, considered equally a season of harshness and beauty. The Queen of Spring, considered the season of rebirth and renewal. And lastly the Queen of Summer, considered the season of happiness and life. As each season had it's prospective personality, so did the Queens and their daughters. Typically, the Daughters of Autumn were quieter, studious, and also calmer; the Daughters of Winter were seen as reserved yet polite, and also very patient; the Daughters of Spring were seen as lively and energetic, and very down to earth; lastly, the Daughters of Summer were seen as happy and seductive, and able to spread a joy to anyone they could encounter. They were stereotypes that were rarely broken, though it did happen on occasion. When a season's Queen was ready to pass on her duty (which could take a very long time, since fey are long lived), she selected a daughter and trained her in the ways of that season's magic. It was an effective system that had lasted longer than anyone could remember.
But amongst these powerhouses, there were yet two more. The Queens of Day and Night. Now, the Queens had the powers that one would expect. Power over bringing day, power over bringing night, etc. These Queens were the longest lived, and had the highest responsibilities. The Queen of Day was often bright a cheery, and very very wise. The Queen of Night on the other hand, was very mysterious, even to the other Queens. It was a bit expected of one who spent so much time in shadow.
Now, why am I telling you all this?
Thats because it is the Spring celebration where all Queens and their children attend the party Queen Spring throws at her palace. The celebration makes the first day of Spring, where the Queen of Winter ends her temporary reign on the world. Human nobles who respect the Fey and stay on their good side while also trading attend as well, and the party lasts all day. It happens every year, so it shouldn't be that special.
Except that there has been a rumor.
A rumor that the Queen of Night has adopted a child to become her heir, and has been secretly training her.
This in itself is astonishing news, for the Queen of Night has ruled longer than even the Queens of seasons can remember. The fact that she has an heir means that she eventually intends to retire, a fact that no one ever expected. The other news of interest is that this supposed daughter might be attending the Spring Celebration. So now all the seasonal courts are attending, eagerly watching to see if this rumor is true, and if they might catch a glimpse of this infamous heir. Some came with the simple intentions of meeting and making friends, while others wanted to try their hand at seducing a Daughter of Night (Which was no small feat).
Whatever the motivation, all were now gather within the main hall of Spring's palace, a long hall made of oaks that had grown together to create the building. People, humans and Fey, lounged about, talking in groups and eating the food Queen Spring put out, while Spring herself was busy greeting guests. There was no sign of Queen Night yet, but one could practically feel the anxiousness in the air even as everyone went about their business. Were the rumors true? Or were they simply spun from someone's imagination? And if it was true, who was the girl that managed to catch the Queen's eye as heir?
