"It was you who saved me at the Tower of Ghosts! I know it is," The noble girl smiled brightly and gave him a nod in greeting, "My name is Annie Slynt."
"No need to thank me. Any proper knight would have done the same." Coren smiled slightly at her excitement. He found most nobility to be dull and boring, but Annie Slynt appeared happy and lively.
"Well, you are a Slynt--I'm sure it seems like they are being their best behavior to themselves, but I'm also sure that comes off as desperate and creepy to the subjects they are trying to impress." Coren commented.

"That's smart of you. There really isn't anything great about it," Those words would have sounded sarcastic from anyone else, but Annie looked completely serious.
"I might not have the power or status of a Slynt, but the politics that come from being a second-rate knight are enough for me." Coren declared. "i don't know hire you feel with all this..."
"See, I loop both of those activities under politics..." Coren offered a small smile, "And, as such, hate both of those activities as well. It isn't like they are sincere."
"Oh, don't worry. You won't offend me by being forthright and upfront," Annie gave him a reassuring smile, "Yes, it does happen often. I'm supposed to be the picture of manners with guests."
Coren used the opportunity to check on the noble he was guarding. "It doesn't seem the noble I've had the pleasure of guarding all day needs me at the moment." He tried to hide the misery in his voice.
