He paused at her greeting and was about to greet her as well, before she walked away, limping with her friends. It had been so long since the two of them had talked, the memory seemed almost like a fairytale. After all, she had moved on to become higher on the social ladder than he. Why would the two of them talk to each other?
Catrin sighed to herself. She was never even near Jerald- how was she supposed to tell him how she felt about him? She sighed again and sat on the nurse's table, wincing. "My head hurts," she told the nurse.
"Well of course it does, dear!" The portly nurse exclaimed tsking away. "Honestly, I would've thought that they would've canceled that trick. Too many young girls are getting injured from it." She let out a sigh, indicating for her to lay down. "I'll get you an icepack and some advil, just lay there for a while."
Catrin took the water and downed the pills, then put the icepack on her ankle. She tried to stand. "We have to get that stunt right. We have a competition in a few weeks."
The nurse let out a huff, as she pushed her back against the bed. "No! You rest here. Who knows if you've damaged your brain from-" A knock at the door stopped her and a frantic look appeared. "Yes? Who is it?"
Jerald stepped into the room, looking a bit embarrassed. "Er...hi." He gave her a smile wave, forcing what looked like a smile. "I'm...er...to see her," he continued, as the nurse didn't interrupt him, and jutted a finger towards Catrin. With an annoyed huff, the nurse disappeared to her desk. Taking that as an 'OK,' Jerald awkwardly walked over to her, his guitar still in his hands. "Hi."
Catrin instantly looked happier. "Hi, Jerald," she said with a shy smile. She looked at his guitar. "It's... it's been a while since we've talked. But I see you still play."
"Hm? Oh-oh yeah. I've been to a couple of concerts and have won a couple of prizes. It's been hard though, I-" After a while, he noticed that he was rambling and he shook his head to stop himself. Jerald gave her a sheepish smile, before placing the guitar at his feet. "What about you? I hadn't known you were a cheerleader until...well, until you took a tumble today. I'm guessing that wasn't part of the routine?" A hint of a smile poked around the edges of his lips.
Catrin laughed quietly. "No, no it wasn't. That's not an easy thing to get right; I just said it was to appease the nurse." She looked at the guitar. "Would you play me something?"
(This is something like the stunt I was describing, but the cheerleader would be in the stunt and then do a 360.
(It's so much fun! It's exhausting though, lot of leg work. But the pay off is amazing!)
He bent down to gather his guitar and cradled it in his hands. He was still for a moment, before he slowly strummed a couple cords. Slowly, his fingers picked up the pace, as he glanced shyly at her. It was "Au Claire de la Line."
