Catherine watched with hawk-like eyes, noticing the change in Fae's expression. She didn't say anything, of course, just kept her hands folded in her lap.

" Why the hell did you come now?" She asks suddenly, calmly putting the letter on her lap, her gaze flinty

"We waited until my mother passed away in the beginning," Kit explained, "She was in her deathbed when she told me. After that, I wasn't sure if I was ready. I didn't come from royalty. I worked in the same tavern since I was a child. But it got to the point of me not being able to even provide for myself and so I had no other choice."

Part of the reason was that Kit wanted to take care of his sister as well, even if that meant bringing her into the castle as a Royal servant.

Fae glances at them, folding her hands elegantly," This.. Is my dad's han writing... You kmow what this means, dot you?"

"It means..that I am a king's bastard child," Kit bowed his head slightly. It was a relief to know that his mother hadn't lied, but now the reality of it was setting in. He was a prince, he had king's blood.

Catherine settled back, her pretty pink lips pursed. They'd gotten their answer and now things would change forever.

" do you KNOW what that means?" She repeats in a low voice

"She means that makes you the heir to Odin, by blood, Kit," Catherine spoke up in an even voice. Her dark gaze, so still and serious like a cat's, never left the princess.

" that increases the chance of revolution, no one knows who you are.. You have atleast a week to live once this is announced," She huffs

Kit raised his eyebrows, "One week to live? You really think there will be that many attempts at assassination?"

" Yes. They dont know you and will probably think you forced me to claim you as king," she says simply," And humt you down and kill you and 'free' me."

"You don't seem the type to be forced into anything," he commented after a moment thoughtfully, his brow furrowing.

Catherine made a small scoff in the back of her throat, glancing away. She normally had such a sharp tongue, but she had to act the part of a dutiful servant.

" Exactly, even more the reason to hate you."

"I haven't done anything wrong though," Kit frowned, "Isn't there a way to convince the people of that?"

" If you get them to love you. Which will be hard becaus eive been leading tem for years..." She stands and bops his head," and you just arrived."

The dark, curly haired young man looked up at Fae, "Well, I can't exactly help that. I wasn't aware of my lineage for most of my life."

She shrugs and huffs," Than you get a job here, hon, or you leave and i dont charge you with treason."

"Work doesn't bother me," Kit shrugged, "I've been doing it my whole life."

"Treason?" Cat finally spoke up, narrowing her eyes, "He hasn't done anything remotely treasonous."

" Indeed he has," Fae replies calmly," As soon as he claimed he was part of the royal family, he was up for treason, he only has a letter, no ones word unless Gannon can vouch for you as wel.."

The girl's lips nearly curled into a snarl of distaste, but Kit held his hand up, "She's right. You knew that before we got here," he silenced his sister with a look and looked back at Fae, "Who is Gannon?"

" The oldest person in the kingdoms, my teacher... My substitute father.." She huffs
