You know the reason why he flirts around? Because he's trying to catch your eye. But guess what, pal!" He shoved Donato's shoulder with a hard hand. "Your 'all you can eat' a*shole personality's going to get a wake up call. You don't care about anyone but yourself. How you feel. How you act. How you are going to be wounded after a fight. You never think about how anyone else feels! Especially Shasta! You want to know who does?" He jabbed a thumb at his chest. "Me! Every time you call him a wh*re, he cries in my shoulder. Every time you act like such a f*cking pr*ck, you wanna know who's helping Shasta to put back the pieces of his heart? Me! Every time you start a fight with him, you wanna know who takes Shasta to the hospital to mend his already injured cardiovascular organ? Me! Where the hell are you!"

He glared at him in hatred. "Oh, that's right. Heading to the bar. Getting wasted. And trying to lay with him. He deserves better than you. Better than me, even. Shasta may be a thief, but he sure as hell doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. So if I were you, buddy, I'd stay the f*ck away. Unless you'd like my fist to reconstruct your face."

Donato sputtered angrily, unable to find the words to reply to that speech. "I didn't... I wasn't trying to lay with him," he said finally. "I just wanted to apologize to him."

The next morning things seemed to have returned to normal in the shelter. Shasta had retreated from the warm sanctuary of his room and had wandered down to the kitchen for some breakfast. His expression was the same as always -- tired but excited for another new day. There seemed to be no hint as to what had happened the night before. Almost as if by some magic spell the world was right again, and he hadn't been hurt by Donato's drunken words.

Ash was sitting at the kitchen bar, reading a magazine and eating a bagel along with his black coffee. Occasionally he'd look up at his friend to make sure he was okay, since Shasta was quite the expert at hiding his feelings, but he didn't worry too much yet. The long haired blonde and brunette seemed quite content at eating an apple and sipping at a short glass of milk.

Donato entered the kitchen and didn't look at Ash or Shasta at first. He got a bowl for himself and poured some cereal, and then sat down at the opposite side of the bar from Ash. Then he finally nodded slightly to Shasta.

Alright. Ash sat up a bit more straight, eyes slowly narrowing as he watched Shasta's expression turn from happy to sad and back again. This is when the risk begins.

Ash leaned back on his bar stool, watching Donato with narrowed eyes. "That means 'leave me the f*ck alone, you made me cry for six hours'."
