"Do you ever think about what you'll be doing in the future?" Cei asked suddenly.

"Ill probably still be a slave.

"Don't you dream of something else, though? Like getting married and having a family?"

"Yeah but for someone like me.."

"I know slaves don't get opportunities like that, but it's still nice to dream about.." He trailed off, looking troubled, "I don't think that growing up for the rest of my life as a slave will be satisfying.."

He nodded andsighed

"And you," Cei looked up at him, "I'm sure that would could find a good wife if you were free. You could be happy too. You're a hard worker, so I think you'd do well."

He shook his head "not with my markings"

"Markings?" He looked a little confused, "What do you mean?"

"These" he said showing him his back and the odd burn that marked him an assassin and the one below which marked him a sklave.

Cei blinked and reached out, touching the marks with gentle fingertips, "These..won't control your whole life. You'll meet people who accept you, markings and all."

He shrugged then pulled his shirt down

"Besides, they aren't so bad," He murmured, going back to sipping his tea, "How bad did they hurt?"

"Well if it was anyone else they might be dead by now"

"I have marks too," He sat up on his knees and showed him the scar on his hip, "This was punishment for being too loud. And I have marks left from being whipped."

He nodded "i have those too"

Cei frowned, "Punishment was always the worst. I hurt for days."

He nodded in agreement.

He shivered and set the tea aside, "At least I haven't been punished here yet."
