It had been a complete disaster. For the Southerners that is. The captain of their squad had made a big blunder, waltzing out in the open like that. Now all his men lay dead, torn apart by some surprise Northern patrol. The wolves had massacred them.
He had been lucky, being able to stumble away from the fighting so he wasn't killed off. At least, not instantly. The long gash he had across his chest seeped steadily, so chances of survival? None unless he got treatment. The boy chuckled but grimaced, his bow at his side. It's funny what one thinks about when dying. He remembered a similar situation from his youth. Ah well. He coughed slightly, looking up at the tree he was leaning against. Pine, right? Yeah, those had the needles. He chuckled again weakly. Wow, thinking about trees. Thats all I can think about when dying?
