Jean-Claude stared at Anita with a playfully accusatory gleam in his eyes. "You bitch. You forgot to tell them all, didn't you?"
Anita reacted with much the same energy. "Oh, you fool." She turned to Briar. "This boy here," She flicked her fingers at Jean-Claude, "Is staying here for what seems to be forever. We must muddle through, struggle to survive." Her eyes widened and her legs curled under the table. Jean-Claude let out a muffled squeal.
Briar couldn't help but laugh, bringing her hand up to stifle the sound. She was taught that it was rude to laugh too loud at the table, "I had no idea. I do welcome you here to Sunspear, Jean-Claude."
Anita laughed, but it was none too quiet. Some glanced at her, some remarked, and others joined in. "I was planning on having dinner with Jean tomorrow. Would you like to join, Briar?"
She scooted to the edge of the bed and stood up, her nightgown falling to her knees, "Can I, uh, have a few minutes first?" she mumbled, turning her back to Anita.
Briar sighed in relief and walked into a small, adjacent room that served as her bathroom. She had a few morning things to take care of, some of it too embarrassing to ever tell someone else.
