Vires had decided to take Nikita to see the city and start his lessons on the rules and laws of man and how they worked. "So that is a 'city,' father?" Nikita asked curiously. Vires nodded. "Yes, that is Essetir. And just call me Vires when we are around others. they would not understand how you've aged to become my age and still be my daughter." He warned as they entered the city. Nikita looked around curiously at everything, taking it all in with her sea blue eyes while dodging the masses around her.
Lelilah Fairbanks, royal servant to the king, was walking down the city streets. Her simple, pale blue dress hugged her body in all the perfect places, though the eighteen year old was not known for her beauty, unlike the Princess. In her arms, Lelilah carried various baskets full of food- mostly the king's favorites.
Vires, unlike Nikita, was not as good at dodging and walked straight into Lelilah. "Oh! Sorry Lelilah. I wasn't watching where I was going." He said. Nikita had somehow appeared next to him when he bumped into her and Nikita looked the other girl up and down curiously but also as if she were sizing up prey. "Oh, Lelilah, this is Nikita. Nikita, meet Lelilah." He said
The royal servant's dark brown eyes flicked up and she curtsied lightly, "Sir Vires, hello," When he introduced the girl, Lelilah smiled softly, "Pleased to meet you, Nikita."
Nikita nodded. "Lelilah here is a royal servant, and I'm guessing you're getting food for his majesty?" He asked. Nikita looked at him and tilted her head to the side slightly. "His Majesty?" She asked. Vires nodded. "Yes, he's the king of this city." He said. Nikita's eyebrows furrowed slightly. "What is a 'king?'" She asked curiously. Vires scratched his chin to think of an explaination
Lelilah's eyebrows quirked upward curiously, but she spoke up, "He is the ruler of the city. He oversees everything that happens and is charged with keeping us all safe."
Nikita looked at Lelilah curiously."So he himself fights all your enemies and hunts down those that would harm his 'people'? He must be a mighty man to do this" She said. "No, the king himself doesn't fight." Vires said. Nikita looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. "He doesn't fight? But if he's charged to defend, doesn't that make him have to do it himself?" She asked, Vires opened his mouth to reply but didn't know what to say, looking at Lelilah for support
The brown haired girl laughed softly, "The king has men who fight for him. The kingsguard and all. It is too risky for him to fight himself. We'd havea new king every week. He deals mainly with the politics. Interacting with the other kingdoms and such."
"WHat are these 'politics'? SOme way of communicating? And are there multiple kings? And if the king does not fight, why is he chosen then to rule? Wouldn't fighting men be chosen to better protect the 'kingdom?'" She asked in a rapid fire
"One question at a time," Lelilah giggled, shifting the baskets in her arms, "Many times, the king descends from a royal line. His son will be the next king and so forth. Only if their family is destroyed by another do we get a new royal line. I suppose he should fight, but he doesn't." She shrugged.
"So the people can decide who they want in a way? But they have to see first?" Nikita asked curiously, turning her attention to Lelilah fully since she seemed to be smart, or at least know much about this kind of thing.
Nikita took this in. "The whole....'king' thing seems very.....complicated, yes. Though to me, it seems a waste to have it be so complex. Why not have a ruler and warriors simply to defend the people and have the people work to support themselves and each other?"
