There was a squeal that broke off abruptly as a demon, with its face twisted in an ugly snarl, turned to ash and dissolved on the wind. Colden Ravenscar wiped his seraph blade on a nearby building and clicked it so it disappeared. With a heavy sigh, the Shadowhunter turned and walked out of the alley way, his thick black boots surprisingly quiet. Of course, he was invisible to Mundanes and they literally had no idea he was there, walking beside them. He only remained invisible when he was working, which he was, even though it was only half-hearted.

The nineteen year old took out a slim cigarette and lit it up. He took a slow drag and grimaced. Nope, he could not see that old warlock's fascination with these things. They were low nicotine and better than regular cigarettes, but they tasted awful. He dropped it and ground it out with his boot. The streets of New York didn't seem to have the glitz and glory that he first thought he saw. He touched the silver chain around his neck and took a deep breath.

So much for being a wonderful and successful Shadowhunter. Nowadays he just did what he had to do and then would disappear for a while.
