The world of Clairvoyant is set on a planet called Kaardotha. It is a wild place no matter where you go and you can hardly trust anybody. The story is set on the continent of Zaethian and in the country Agralebeth. Gypsies and other nomads roam these regions. The country of Agralebeth is ruled by a king (who has outlawed magic) but once was ruled by an evil, cruel, and dark man called the Ebony Knight. Nobody ever saw him, but he ruled through his dedicated servants called the Blood Wraiths. He lived in the castle called Kreran.
Finally, a hero defeated the Ebony Knight and united the six Holds of Agralebeth. He became the first king in the kingdom. Below are the details of the Holds:
*Frei is situated on a slight peninsula behind which is the Spring of Life. The Spring of Life is hidden to anybody who doesn’t possess magical powers. Anybody who accidentally runs into the entrance to the Spring will simply be teleported to the other side of it. Frei exports fish and purifies saltwater using scientific ways to other kingdoms. The citizens of Frei are known for being particularly submissive to the king and, like the other towns, do not let gypsies into the city although they are permitted to camp outside and citizens can go outside the city to watch them perform.
*Gypsies prefer other towns to Frei simply because as a whole they prefer being inland to travel instead of going across rivers to get to their destination.
*The symbol for Frei is a fish. Any shipments that have a fish logo somewhere on it is from Frei.
*Like Frei, Theralia, too, is situated against the coastline. However, it is simply a place for noble people to live when they aren’t living in Drilinidd. They live here because of the easy transportation available due to the Rushing River beside the city and because of the nice view of the sea that is provided because of the location of the city. If one goes outside the walls of the city, they might notice a looming ruin to the southeast across the river. This is what is called the Ebony Knight’s Castle. Nobody dares go near the ruin, claiming that it is haunted with the spirit of the Ebony Knight, an evil entity who once ruled the holds of Theralia and Chirar with an iron fist, before a king united the holds and made Agralebeth a kingdom. Outside the city, the land is rich with soil because of the annual freshwater floods that come during the rainy season that brings rich nutrients to the land surrounding Theralia as well as the nearby city of Chirar. Therefore, the citizens of the Theralian Hold that aren’t nobles are farmers that grow corn, beans, squash, potatoes, wheat, and most every other vegetable imaginable. The actual city of Theralia is surrounded by deep, wide trenches to be catch the annual floodwaters for the comfort and safety of the nobles. Around the inside of these trenches are walls that cover every end of the city except the one that faces the sea. Theralia also doesn’t let the gypsy bands inside their walls.
*Gypsies favor Theralia over some of the other holds because the nobles have nothing to do during their downtime and pay for them to entertain them with firebreathing and other curiosities. The nobles also pay handsomely for their services and so the gypsies can make more money coming to Theralia than the other holds. However, they prefer to come during the dry season due to the annual flooding of the river. Luckily, this too is when the nobles enjoy coming to rest in Theralia.
*The symbol for Theralia is a ruin of a castle. It was originally a whole castle when the Ebony Knight ruled Theralia and Chirar, but eventually became a joke amongst the people, thinking that the Ebony Knight would never come back. (Boy, were they wrong!)
*Chirar is located south of Theralia and is the kingdom’s hub for forest game. The people of Chirar are bold hunters and every week, there are organized hunts to get enough food to preserve and export to the other holds. The women all have gardens in their back yards which all young lads and lasses help tend until they are old enough for their respective duties; young men for the hunt and young women for marriage. The reason Chirar is known for its hunting instead of Drilinidd is that the Forest of Forgetfulness near Drilinidd is extremely dangerous to enter and nobody today can say that they entered the Forest and survived. However, the Forest of Chirar is perfectly normal except for the occasional bear or mountain lion and gives much game to the wary, careful hunter. Chirar is also a trading hub for local merchants from all the other holds. A lot of local trade happens in Chirar and therefore also brings a lot of tourism from wealthy noblemen. This hold does flood to some degree due to the location of the town just south of the Lake of Chirar so the people build trenches around their city as well, just like Theralia. Every year in spring, the Earl of Chirar hosts a boat race on the Lake with a prize of one thousand habobs (the Agralian currency). People come from miles around just to try to earn this prize, which of course is a huge amount of money for Agralians. Chirar is the only hold in Agralebeth that allows gypsies in the town and while the king doesn’t approve completely, the money that is brought into the Agralian economy by the annual boat race helps the king overlook this slight breach in his Codex.
*The gypsies like Chirar almost as much as they do Theralia because the Earl allows them to come into their city. They also appreciate the boat races every spring so after they visit Theralia (before the rainy season) they travel on the river to Chirar for the boat races and a chance to earn money. This is also a good time to visit Chirar because boat racing hopefuls want to know whether they will win so they go to the only two clairvoyants in the band- Constance and Miriam. Of course, they don’t want their agreement with the Earl of Chirar to end, so they tell every boater that they will win while pretending to use their powers.
*The symbol for Chirar is a bow and arrow above a boat. This originates from their boating pass-times and their industry of hunting for the rest of the kingdom.
*Rilad is known for the fact that they live near the Knowing Tree, which is a very powerful magic landmark in Agralebeth. Rilad is also known for the large amount of Wood, High, and Dark Elves that live in the city. In fact, the Earl of Rilad is a half Wood Elf and half High Elf and is a very wise man. Most of the people that live in Rilad are very smart, which justifies their export: knowledge. A lot of the members of Rilad hold are smart and therefore write about their knowledge and discoveries. There is a publishing group of elves and Agralians that allow almost every book to be published and sent out to the other holds. There is also a college located in Rilad which teaches many skills including writing, swordplay, alchemy, and many other things. The only thing, really, that isn’t taught at the College of Rilad is magic because that is illegal in Agralebeth. Some of the houses in Rilad are located on the tributary off of the Rushing River, making it a boat house. Since this river floods every year, the boats are versatile and can be hauled onto land with a team of four to six horses. However, since it is tedious and time-consuming to do this, there are only a few boat houses on the river. Rilad doesn’t let gypsies into the city but they are allowed to set up camp outside the walls of the city.
*The gypsies do not hate Rilad, nor do they love it because not many people in the town believe in their magic and only watch the performances that have logical explanations and do not seem impossible, such as the dancers and jugglers. The gypsies only come here on the way to Drilinidd and only stay a few days to replenish their supplies and rest before continuing on the road to the capital of Agralebeth.
*The symbol of Rilad is an open book with a quill pen above it, due to the fact that every citizen of Rilad treasures knowledge above even the greatest of treasure caches.
* The significance of the Knowing Tree is its power to see into a person’s very soul and see if they have the right intentions. If they are deemed worthy, the Knowing Tree will tell them what they need to know. This landmark can only be reached either by magical means or getting to the entrance because the Tree is located in a valley and the only entrance to its valley is guarded by the Keeper of the Tree. The Keeper is an ancient man with a waist-long, white beard and a surly attitude. The only way to get past him is by answering a riddle designed to confuse you. If you can answer this riddle, you are allowed to pass and can go and ask what you want of the Knowing Tree. It is said that the Knowing Tree knows everything because every person who gains entry to the Knowing Valley is satisfied that the question they asked was answered correctly.
*Frigali is a grimy, filthy town full of thieves and wracked by bandit attacks. It is led by a fat, lazy Earl who is greedy and doesn’t share his wealth with the poor and dying people of his town. Everybody in Frigali knows how to steer a boat swiftly and how to fish and fishing is the only export that Rilad provides. Nobody lives in Frigali except for the chronically poor and those who are born there. It is very hard to get out of Frigali because even if you can, you won’t have enough money to survive and will only end up in the marketplace of the town again. The only decent thing about Frigali are the extremely cheap prices for food, although this is due to the quality of the food that you can buy. Most of the food is half rotten so even if it is cheap you will pay the toll in sickness from eating the food.
*The gypsies don’t even bother stopping in Frigali thinking it a better decision to hunt and gather for themselves and head on towards Drilinidd.
*The symbol for Frigali is a dock with a person on it. Because the people of Frigali don’t really grow anything, they don’t really have many outgoing shipments of supplies.
*Drilinidd is the shining capital of all of Agralebeth. It is a very clean city, rich and colorful and full of kind and generous people. This city is situated under the shadow of Mount Agralebeth and has a rich history to it. Drilinidd is said to be the oldest city in all of Agralebeth by some accounts, built almost entirely out of stone that only could have been cut miles away from there, nearer to the Gulf of Reverie. How could the ancient people have carved the entire city out of stone and moved all the necessary materials to the building site? Many believe that the answer is magic. Only many masters of earth could have moved that large amount of stone all the way north to Drilinidd. But on a different note, Drilinidd is warm although most of the city is in the shadow of a mountain. The sun still manages to warm even the shadiest of areas in the city and it is a pleasant city. It is also the most heavily guarded. The king and his entire entourage live in a palace in the very center of the city. It is the one building not made completely out of stone in the entire hold. The palace was built from the ground up with a stone foundation, then continued upwards in wood and gold filigree. It is a huge palace with many rooms and hundreds of servants tending to the building and the king’s every whim.
*If the king hears of a gypsy band nearing his hold capital, he will order the guards to let them camp outside for a day just to get a false sense of security. After the first day is up, if they aren’t gone, the king will order them to attack the gypsies and drive them away from their city. But the gypsies have found an overcrop near the mountain and camp here when going to Drilinidd so the guards can’t find them. Therefore, the gypsies don’t particularly love Drilinidd other than all the money they get from performing there.
*The symbol of Drilinidd is a shield under a shining, silver sword. This is because the king lives there and Drilinidd is notorious for having excessive amounts of guards.
*Agralebeth’s economy runs on the transfer and earning of habobs, which are the kingdom’s currency. They are slightly bigger than a brass button one might find on their waistcoat and have a hole through the middle. Habobs are made of gold and are therefore valuable. The amount of these is larger than freias, which are square-shaped and are smaller than the habob coins. They, too, have a hole through the middle, but the hole in freias are diamond shaped. Freias are made of silver. Five freias make up a habob. Finally, one hundred semas make up a freia, so five hundred semas make up a habob. Semas are diamond shaped and smaller than freias. The hole through semas are circular and semas are made out of copper.
*Religion: The people of Agralebeth subscribe to the theory of several different gods, or polytheism. There are hundreds of gods, but the king of all gods is named Adagnitio. His wife, and the mother of Creation, is named Ecficia. The two main gods are mother and father of all other gods, including Amor, the goddess of love, Visum, the goddess of foresight, Lucem, the god of light, and Discessum, the god of death. Every person chooses a god or goddess to worship at the age of sixteen, but you can also be the servant of several different gods. This means that your whole life will be taken up by worshipping the gods.
