Colden nodded, though he had no intention of eating lunch. The blonde Shadowhunter couldn't do anything normal, not until Jason was safe. He paced back and forth like a caged animal, occasionally looking over the warlock's shoulder.
"Doing that won't make me faster, Blondie," Kiel muttered.

"Come eat, Colden." Alexander murmured with a small smile when he returned with some sandwhiches. He came and sat the tray down. His eyes were slightly lit with love toward his parabatai. Feelings like that couldn't go away with just a snap.
Colden eyed the sandwiches and pursed his lips, "I might just throw them back up," he answered monotonously, "It would be a waste."
"Colden..." A sad look entered his gaze. "Starving yourself isn't going to help Jace... If he needs you to fight for him, you're going to need your strength. A good appetite is one way to keep that up."
"I know that," his voice came out sharper than he intended and Colden sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "Sorry. I don't mean to snap at you. I'm just stressed out right now and I don't think eating will help."

Alexander had a hurt look but nodded, turning and heading back out of the room.
"He doesn't realize, you know," Ezekiel stated, though his cat eyes remained glued to the papers.
"Know what?" Colden looked at him sideways, chewing on the inside of his cheek gently. He sounded a bit guarded and cautious, perhaps.
"That you love Jason."
"Of course I love J-"
"You know that isn't what I mean," Ezekiel broke away from deciphering for a moment to give him a very pointed look. Cole paled slightly and clenched his jaw, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Alexander didn't return that time, even though he wanted to. He couldn't... It hurt.
"Go talk to him," Kiel ignored Colden's stubbornness, "You hurt his feelings and you know it. It's up to you to fix it before I get these things deciphered. You'll want to be on the best of terms when we go to retrieve your brother."
Colden wanted to argue- every fiber of his being told him to make some snide argument- but he knew the warlock was right. He'd seen the hurt flash in Alexander's eyes before he left. Truly, he didn't want to hurt his parabatai, but sometimes his temper got the best of him.
Swallowing whatever stubbornness threatened to surface, the blonde turned and exited the room down the same hallway Xander had.

Alexander leaned against the wall, breathing heavily as he clutched at his chest. Wave after wave of some sort of heart stopping emotion was flashing through his body, and it was becoming painful. Emotional hurt, sadness, anger, worry, confusion... His breaths became haggard and he bowed his head, hair falling into his face a bit.
"Alexander," It was rare for him to use his parabatai's full name instead of one of his nicknames, but it felt appropriate. Colden stopped in front of him, regret making his blue eyes dim. If only he could have controlled his damn mouth. Sometimes he was too impulsive for his own good.

Alexander tried to pull himself together. Damn it, don't cry in front of him! "Yeah?" He asked, voice comig across strained though monotonous none the less.
Instead of responding, because Colden couldn't really find the words to do that, he reached out and grabbed Alexander's hand gently. Xan did this a lot, closing himself off, but they were parabatai. Cole could see through that. So despite Xan's efforts to look unaffected and strong, he could see him crumbling. He pulled Alexander into a swift hug, one arm fitting snugly around his waist while the other still held Xan's hand.

Alexander closed his eyes tight while hugging him back, face buried in the blonde's chest as he clutched at his shirt. So many things had gone wrong that day. And to think that that morning and early afternoon they were all happy.
