She hunched over her dragon's back, turning him towards the mountaintop. They needed shelter, and a cave was a safe enough place. They landed, and Elena rolled off his back. Perfect, a little spring nearby.
She didn't notice Jacob as she peeled the clothes off of her body, stepping into the water.
She dunked herself under, surfaced to redress in a dark blue shirt, black leather pants, black boots with gleaming silver buckles, her blonde hair hanging in heavy ropes around her face. "Jacob!"
"Yes, very. I just wanted to let you know that I was done and you could take a turn while Aqua and I hunt." She smiled, tilted her head and nodded her head towards her dragon. "He's restless."
She nodded, rested her lips lightly on Jacob's cheek before moving away from him. "Feel free to camp here, but if you need to be outside, feel free to drag some of the quilts and things from Aqua before we leave."
She nodded, kept the polite smile on her face even as her heart tumbled and rolled and throbbed with pain in her chest. "Very well. I will see you when I return, then?"
Two days later, they returned. Elena was tired but glowing, kills thrown over her back. She had hunted on the way home, and she was glad of it. Winter was in full swing and hunting would be scarce from then on.
"Jacob?"
It was the middle of the night, the moon a dangerous silver in a sky of deep indigo.
