I just read this most ridiculous blog post about how awful Frozen is compared to "The Snow Queen," which is the fairytale that inspired it. Now, I've read the Snow Queen fairytale, and personally I like the story of Frozen a whole lot more. For one, the Snow Queen (AKA Else) is a villain in the original fairytale, and from what I've heard it's a pretty dark story. The writer implies that Anna isn't a strong female lead, which I disagree with. She's naïve, certainly, because she's been locked up in a castle her whole life, but she proves to be resourceful and brave on her journey to find Elsa.
The person also says, and I quote "Implications of lazy animation aside, the whole thing once again makes it startlingly clear that Disney, and most all media for that matter, makes stories about the same thin, wide eyed white women over and over again while missing out on any opportunities for diversity."
Excuse me? First of all, "lazy animation"? Second of all, have you seen Princess and the Frog? Second of all, Frozen is NOT the same story as other Disney movies (not that I believe whatsoever that all Disney movies have the same story). First of all, the day is saved by the true love between sisters, which is definitely new for Disney.
As for being angry because Disney changed the story of "The Snow Queen," that's Disney's job. If they were just doing the same exact story, then it really would be like all the other Disney princess fairytales. They were creative and innovative with this one.
Okay, now I'm out of things to say. I'll get back to your if I think of anything else.
Sorry. I felt a very strong need to reply to that blog post, but since I didn't have that capability, I decided to rant on here.
