She sat down,"thanks" she said. The pub smelled of cigars and alcohol and she was bound to add to the stench. She pulled out a box of cigarettes and slipped one into her mouth then offered the box to Leland.
He shook his head. "I quit three months ago." He smiled. "I only allow myself one poison at a time--and alcohol has the bonus of making everything seem better.
She nodded, "understood" and put the pack away, flipping out her zippo and lighting hers with shaking fingertips, gesturing to the tender for two beers,"your giving me a place to stay, ill buy you beer"
"All but Kim still live in town," Leland said after thinking about it for a minute. "We both went to college in the city. She is going after her Master's Degree in Computer Science." He explained. "Did you want to meet up with them?"
"You were... eight? So about twelve-thirteen years, now." Leland did the math. "I will call them when we get back to the house. We can set something up for this weekend." He decided.
"Oh...."she trailed off, thinking, she never was able to really go to school but addition and subtraction were easy, she was pretty ashamed of herself."yeah, that'd be great" she said with a smile as they got their beers.
"Up until we graduated high school." He confirmed. "Except Ty, he dropped out when he was sixteen. Then, Kim and me went on to college together until this past semester." He paused a moment. "Taylor went to college out of state, but dropped out after a year." He finished.
"I'm an illustrator." Leland smiled. "I have been talking to this one publishing company, but so my only employment is doing the comic for the local newspaper." He explained. "What about you?"
