Wren watched him with concern. "Do you need help?"

Rylan shook his head. "I can manage." As much as he liked her, he didn't think he could stand someone else feeding him.

"Of course," she said quietly, sitting up straight in her chair.

After Rylan had consumed as much as he could manage, he leaned his head back against the pillow and took a deep breath. "I guess I'm lucky to have survived."

Wren nodded affirmation. "Yes. You are. Do you need anything?"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Rylan shook his head weakly. "No. I think I just need to rest. Thank you, Wren."

She nodded with a small smile. "Just sleep. I'll be close by," she said gently, patting his hand and walking out of the room.

Rylan closed his eyes and soon he fell into a light sleep. He woke up a few times, his wound throbbing, but he always slipped away again before long.

Meanwhile, Wren kept herself busy by cleaning the rooms around Rylan's, including the room she had been offered by him when they had arrived at his palace. She also paced outside but tried to keep her mind off of Rylan's injury.

Rylan woke up tangled in sheets soaked with sweat. He shivered despite the sweltering heat in the room. "Guard!" he called, but his voice came out as a croak. He tried again, louder this time. "Guard?"

Wren heard his small call, having luckily been right outside. "Rylan! What's wrong!"

Rylan's breathing was heavy as he tried to shift under his blankets. "I think... my wound might be infected," he said. He'd seen enough infected wounds to recognize the symptoms. "I can't check it myself, though."
