Guess Then...I Kinda Got Arrested

"Okay." Kendrick said, turning slightly more away from her.

Astrid leaned her head back again and groaned. Damn, if only she'd had a chance to actually use some of those drugs.

Kendrick reached out his abilities, spread them far. He didn't have super hearing, so he had no idea what the other people in the prison were saying but when he reached out and focused, he could see their truths. He marveled at the fact that more of them deserved to be in here than he did. Maybe even more than the snarky broken girl behind him.

"Do they usually hold you long?" Astrid asked without opening her eyes. She wondered what the penalty for 'living under a bridge' was.

"Eh. Couple nights. But they don't have anything to keep me in longer than that."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Astrid nodded. She hadn't actually had drugs in her system when they arrested her, but being at the scene was bad enough in their eyes. Still, she wasn't sure exactly how long they could legally keep her here.

"You're a minor, they can't keep you too long unless they go through trial."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Astrid muttered under her breath, then said, "A hell of a time I chose to get arrested. If they drag this out, they might get to send me to prison."

"Why's that?" Damn his curiosity.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"My birthday's in a few days," Astrid said. "I'm sure they could find a way to charge me as an adult."

Kendrick stared at her. That wouldn't be good at all. He didn't know what to say though. He had never been held for more than a few nights.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Astrid glanced and him and gave a wry smile. "I've been in here a number of times. They're probably looking for any excuse to lock me up for good."

Kendrick smiled a little. "I think they feel the same about me." He knew they did but there was nothing anyone could od about it.

"How old are you anyway?" Astrid asked. He looked about her age, but well... she was never good at judging those things.

"18." Kendrick fiddled with his dirty shirt and wondered where he could sneak into to shower once the cops let him go.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"That's unfortunate," Astrid said flatly, little sympathy in her voice. It wasn't as if she was friends with him or anything.

Kendrick shrugged. It didn't matter. Nothing really did and he wondered several times before this moment why he still even graced the earth with his useless presence. No body wanted someone they could not lie to, especially if said person was a homeless teen.

Before Astrid could say anything more, an officer appeared at their cell doors. He took a ring of keys off his belt and unlocked Astrid's cell. "Someone paid your bail," he said. He was looking at Astrid, but then he glanced at Kendrick and added, "You too."

Kendrick gaped at the officer. He clearly wasn't lying but he couldn't believe him. "I'm sorry, what?" It was the first time he had spoken louder than a soft hushed tone and his voice was deep with a little rumble. In another world, in any other circumstances it would've commanded authority. But here, it made him seem slightly intimidating.

The officer shrugged. "Someone posted your bail. Now get your asses out of here unless you want to stay the night." He gestured Astrid out and then unlocked Kendrick's cell as well. She gave him a bewildered look as she stepped out.
