Guess Then...I Kinda Got Arrested

"He's too strange. I don't like that I can't read him. Half of me is very tempted to leave right now."

Astrid gestured vaguely out the window. "And where would you go? As far as I can tell, we're in the middle of nowhere."

Kendrick shrugged. "I've been thinking nowhere's better than here."

Astrid snorted. "So, what, you'd rather be wandering around a forest with no food or water?"

Kendrick sighed. "No i guess not. I just need to do something."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"What?" Astrid asked, a hint of curiosity lighting up her eyes.

"Anything." Kendrick grumbled. "I don't do well being bored."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"We could burn the house down," Astrid suggested lightly. "Then he'd take us back just to get rid of us. Or, you know, kill us."

Kendrick looked at her then burst out laughing. "You know, I actually kind of like that idea."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Astrid rolled her eyes. "Right. I'm actually betting on the 'killing us' part though."

"Yeaahhh. Me too. He doesn't seem to understanding."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"As much as I'd like to get out of here, the afterlife is not somewhere I particularly want to go," Astrid said wryly.

Kendrick smiled at her. "Nor i."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"We're in agreement, then," Astrid said. "No burning the house down. Unfortunately."

"Too bad." Kendrick sighed, offering her a slightly reading smile.

Astrid paused thoughtfully. "We could search his room. Look for something helpful." She smiled faintly. "Do guys keep interesting things in their underwear draws too?"

Kendrick looked at her and grinned. He searched all the truths that had ever swept across his vision, he could store them like files in a databank. "Try the pants drawer. Usually the bottom one." He began to lead the way around the house.

Astrid finally located his bedroom, which other than the living room was the only room in the house that had furniture. She stepped inside and peered around curiously, taking in the minimalistic appearance. A simple bed with a solid dark-colored comforter, a ridiculously neat oak desk in the corner. One thing drew her eye, a picture of a black-haired girl pinned on the wall over the desk.

Kendrick followed her in slowly. The room was oddly put together, mismatched pieces of the old and the new. His eyes passed over the photo, storing it in his memory for later, and he headed straight for the dresser.

Astrid followed him and peered over his shoulder, waiting for him to open the drawer.
