"Get back here, you little piece of sh*t!" The male shout was muffled and lost among the crowd as a boy, no older than thirteen, pushed through the city streets. His clothes were ragged and torn, but still hanging close to his lithe frame. He leaped and skirted around people, ignoring the indignant shouts of angry shoppers. His heart beat pounded in his ears as he ran. It felt like his heart was going to explode inside of his chest. His pursuers were still behind him, that he knew very well. They were always close by. Ever since they took him from his home village two months prior. He didn't know where he was, honestly, and everyone spoke in a different dialect. It addled his brain and and made him feel dizzy and confused. No one seemed to be able to- or want to- help him.
A pale, long nailed hand shot out seemingly from no where and gripped his shoulder in a menacing hold, yanking him back into the shadows as the boy's followers raced past the alleyway. A cloaked figure stood behind him, its hood covering the upper half of its face, and its plump pink lips pulled down in a casual frown. Long dark hair rested on the fronts of its crushed velvet shoulders.
Dark eyes widened and although he was glad that the figure had pulled him away in time to let his pursuers pass, he whirled around and stared at the stranger mistrustfully. He took a wary step back and his shoulders tensed up.
"You appear to be at a loss for words, young one. Is there any definable cause as to why? I believe I just rescued you from an untimely demise." He stayed still, tone amused though his face and body language expressed no emotion.
His words came in as a jumble of sounds, though there were a few words he recognized from his time with his captors. His brow creased as he tried to think of the words he wanted to say, "W-who are y-you?" The boy stuttered in poor common tongue.
"There lies a patch of roses beyond the far hedge," he lifted a long nailed hand slowly, gesturing toward the other end of the village at a hedge creating a wall between the village and a dark forest, "I wish for you to retrieve a single red rose and return to my side within the hour."

Cei looked back at the figure, then at the hedge. Just one flower, right? He took a deep breath and slipped from the alley way, heading back onto the street.
He walked briskly, acutely aware of his surroundings. His pursuers could be anywhere, and he didn't want to be caught offguard. He'd surely be punished if he was found again.
Cei was quiet as he crept through the city streets toward the hedge that the stranger pointed out.
He felt a little apprehensive as he neared the hedges. The forest behind it was dark and scary, as much as he hated to admit it. Why did this person need a rose anyways?
