Serena nodded, hugging herself, a shiver running up and down her spine. "I agree, hopefully once or if we get to a town, we can figure out how far we are from home," she said, grimacing.
(Sure. I was thinking that it should be a separate kingdom so that we can just go ahead and introduce the prince.)
Alianna trudged bravely into the city, aware of the stares of many strangers. It appeared to the princess that this was not like any town in Aquos. It had small, one-story houses made solely of stucco and brick while in Aquos the houses were on two floors and were wood and brick.
Serena sucked on her top lip, glancing around the group of people. "Princess, we might want to find a place to get changed soon; I've never seen this place before on the map," she whispered, frowning worriedly.
Alianna nodded. "Perhaps we can find some money on the ground or something. I will not be reduced to stealing." She began looking down at the ground and found a few small coins that had a strange name printed on it- Varedia. "I don't know how much this will buy us so let's keep looking.
Serena shook her head, sighing sadly. "My lady, if we have to, to survive, then I will steal," her servant said, her lips pressing into a thin line. Though she gave Alianna a curt nod. "Yes, hopefully the people here will be understanding."
Alianna continued to look and found several more bronze coins, three silver, and a single gold coin. "Let's go find a clothing shop," she said, ignoring her remark about stealing. "We'll get the bare minimum."
Nodding, Serena rubbed her own shoulders, shivering. She didn't like going to a new place, this one in particular made her skin crawl. "Alright," she said, glancing around to find a cloths shop. Finally spotting one, she gestured for Aliana to follow her, pointing to the shop.
Alianna nodded and followed Serena. As they entered the shop, it was instantly warmer. She gazed at the shop keeper and then at the clothes. She found a brown dress made of a thick cotton with a thinner, darker brown overlay for only five bronze pieces. Alianna took one and then gazed at Serena. "Get whatever you like, but keep in mind we need food."
Serena nodded and walked around the store, not wanting something that was too flashy. Finally, she found a simple all brown dress, and a small smile appeared. This was one that wouldn't attract to much attention to her, something she didn't like happening. This suit her quite nicely. She quickly got changed and paid the shop keeper the two bronze coins. "Shall we go, Alianna?" She asked, picking up her skirt so she wouldn't trip.
Alianna nodded and paid for hers. Her dress fit quite nicely. She walked out on the street and noticed, for the first time, a gleaming castle on top of a hill in the distance. She gazed at it. "I'm sure they need help there. Imagine running a castle that big... why, you could fit two of my castle in there with extra wiggle room."
Serena followed after her out of the store. As Alianna mentioned the castle, her servant gazed up at it, looking quite uninterested. "Quite," she agreed, "though I don't think we should go up there, if that's what you're talking about. We shouldn't fraternize with the enemy."
Alianna gazed at Serena. "We don't know if that's the enemy. We don't know who this is." Alianna gazed back at the castle, and with a split-second decision she began walking towards the castle.
"Alianna! We can't just walk up to the castle, we'll be killed! Remember, we can't let any know who we are," Serena hissed, grabbing her princess's hand and trying to stop her.
Alianna shook Serena off. "We don't have to tell anybody who we really are! From now on, until we can find out where we are or find a map or somthing, we are two peasants from the hill country between Aquos and the Wilds."
Serena shook her head, her eyes wide. "Do you really think whoever rules here will accept us, if we tell them we're peasants? We'll be in even more trouble!" She hissed, wringing her hands.
Alianna gazed at her servant. "You realize that hiding in plain sight is better than other options, right? Plus we probably won't have to deal with the rulers- just a servant master or somebody. You can stay out here and beg if you want but I'm going to give it a whirl."
"And going to the king and prince will almost certainly lead you to have your head on their walls," she hissed, shaking her head. "You know that I cannot just leave you to whatever the prince wants, who knows what's going through their mind!"
Alianna rolled her eyes. "Like I said, I won't deal with the princes or kings. Just the leader of the servants." She continued walking, clearly signaling the end of the conversation.
