"Courage I've never seemed to lack," Cassel said. "I thought it would be... selfish of me to tell you."

"Selfish?" She looked up, cocking her head, "Why?"

"Because I'm going to die," Cassel said. "Or... at least, it's nearly inevitable that I'm going to die. Soon."

"Don't say that!" Hareena exclaimed, squeezing his hand tightly in hers, "We're going to change it."

Cassel fell silent, not wanting to talk about it anymore, especially right then. When they reached his room, he unlocked the door and then stepped inside.

Hareena had been in his room before, so she wasn't uncomfortable when walking in. This was more private than sitting out by the fountain, so she appreciated it. Hareena glanced at Cassel, a small smile on her lips, then moved to his bed to sit down.

Seeing her sitting on his bed got his heart pounding again. He swung the door shut and walked over to her slowly. Was this really happening? He felt like he was moving through a dream. He paused just in front of her. "Hareena..."

Hareena was leaning back against her hands, looking up at him, though more at his chin and mouth than his eyes, "What? Is something wrong, Cassel?"

"I just want to make sure you know what you're getting into," he said.

She pressed her lips together, a look of unmovable determination flickering in her blue eyes, "I know, Cassel. I'm not clueless."

Castle hesitated a moment longer before closing the distance between them. He bent over her and press their lips together.

Hareena smiled and pressed into the kiss with a little less hesitation now. Her eyes fluttered shut, as her lips molded to his perfectly.

Cassel pushed her back against the bed and lowered himself over her. With their bodies pressed together, well he was sure she knew exactly what was going on in his head.

Hareena went willingly, one hand coming up around the back of his neck. She had a very clear idea of what Cassel meant, the idea solidified by his weight on top of her.

Cassel tried to push down that desire. He just wanted to be around her, kiss her, touch her. They didn't need to go too far. He still couldn't help himself from slipping his fingers under the hem of her shirt and feeling the smooth skin of her stomach.

Goosebumps rose where his fingers touched and Hareena smiled. She let her fingers curl in his hair, playing with it gently.

Cassel pulled back momentarily to drink her in. "God, your beautiful," he whispered. "Has anyone ever told you that?"

Hareena looked up at him, making eye contact for only a split second before she looked away, "No.."

Cassel blinked. "Really?" Somehow, he couldn't believe that.
