Marnie was up in her flat, sitting by the vanity. She ran a brush through her smooth, brown hair. It was freshly cleaned and dried after her shower, the scent of strawberries held in. Her hair had a tendency to hold scents.
She was wearing a light blue sundress, the floral pattern popping against the color. It flared just above her knees and was strapless. She had a small white cardigan with her purse to bring along in case it got cool out. She sighed, fighting off a nervous flutter in her stomach. She never really dated, so she wasn't sure how to act around Reagan. They'd already hung out once, though. That was a little more comforting.
She peeked out the window and recognized Reagan's form walking to her shop. Marnie squeaked and jumped up. She slipped on a pair of flats and grabbed her purse and cardigan, hurrying down to the shop.
Reagan glanced at her watch once more as she approached the door.
She wore a smoke-gray button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the top two buttons undone with white slacks and a pair of all-star converses. Her long, coal-black hair was down with one side tucked behind her ear, revealing three small platinum balls along the bottom of her ear and miniature dagger through the top of her ear.
She shuffled the chocolates into her other hand and knocked on the door.
"Hi." Reagan repeated with a smile. "I got you these." She gestured with the chocolates and the rose, nearly forgetting that she'd brought them upon seeing Marnie.
Marnie looked surprised and embarrassed at once, "Oh, wow, you didn't have to do that," she chuckled, taking the chocolates and rose gently, "Thank you."
Reagan knew just how to get to Marnie's heart. She smiled, holding the rose with gentle fingers, as though it were a precious treasure, "I'll go put this in a vase, to keep it alive."
"Alright." Reagan smiled. She was glad she liked the flower. She'd spent almost an hour finding the perfect one--with her mother's help, of course. She just wanted everything about tonight to be perfect.
Marnie beckoned her inside and hurried to find a case back in the greenhouse. She placed it in a small white case and set it down with a smile, "Alright, I'm ready to go."
Reagan closed the door and walked around the car. As she pulled away from the shop and headed towards where they would be eating, she realized she hadn't told Marnie that she liked her dress, "You look very pretty tonight."
