He jumped back, as she suddenly opened the door, increassing the would-be close proximity between the two. He managed a crooked smile and bobbed his head. "Alright, I'll be downstairs if you need me. Though you might want to hurry up, Tante Emma doesn't like to be kept waitin'." Zach flashed her another grin and headed down the stairs.
"Zach darlin', when is your friend comin' down?" Tante Emma's voice greeted him, as he walked into the kitchen, his shoulders hunched forward.
"She'll be here soon, I just woke her up, I think," he replied, settling himself down at the kitchen chair, draping his arm over the edge. Tante Emma let out a grunt, pressing his lips together into a thin line, her eyes flickering up to the ceiling above them, though she said nothing.
Annaliese slipped on a clean slip, then her dress. She put flats on and ran a brush through her dark hair. She rushed out of the bedroom and trotted down the steps to the kitchen.
"Ah, there she is," Zach said, tilting his head back to give Annaliese a crooked grin. Tante Emma pressed her lips together, though she said nothing in complaint.
Rubbing her hands over the towel, she nodded tensely to her. "Good mornin', Ms. Annaliese. I do hope the room was to your likin'."
Tante Emma nodded and gave her a small smile. "Of course, of course... Please, take a seat, I was just in the middle of preppin' breakfast. I hope you like banana bread, I didn't have time to create a large dish like you might be used to. However, now that I know you're here, I can make a beautiful feast for tonight," she said, finally draping the towel on one of the drawers' handles.
Tante Emma let out a chuckle, a real one this time. "My, my. There's no need to be so polite; I do enjoy cookin', so there's no need to be so worried. Besides, I have extra honey from this years harvest, it would help if I used the extra."
Tante Emma nodded, looking satisfied. "Excellent, glad we came to an agreement," she replied smoothly, grabbing the plate and setting it on the table. "Please, eat."
"Of course, tell me how you like it; I added some honey in the recipe, so it might be sweeter than you're used to," she called over her shoulder, as she grabbed the towel again and started scrubbing away at the dirty dishes.
"Ladies first," Zach cheerily said, twirling the fork in the air.
