"Sapphire turned her head and stared at him in astonishment. She never thought she'd hear those words out of Chase Larkin's mouth. "Excuse me?" she asked, still gaping like a fish out of water."

"You're very attractive, Sapphire." her name rolled off his tongue seductively and his eyes glowed like never before, the small smile he wore must of been quite a sight for any who witnessed it.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I... you... what?" Sapphire stammered, her blue eyes like round little gems. Who was this boy was what had he done with the one she'd been crushing on for months, the one who'd ignored her for just as long?

Chase kind of just laughed at her, "Cute." he nodded then said "We should go out on a date sometime."

Sapphire tried desperately to pull herself together, but unfortunately it didn't work. Chase had always been like a movie star crush. She'd never expected to actually hear those words. When she finally found her voice, though, all she could say was a meek, "Okay."

"Cool, well I'll see you around then." he winked at her before walking down the hall toward his first period.

Sapphire gaped after him, standing there so long she was almost late for her first class.

The bell rang and the empty halls filled with people, the day went by quickly. Chase was already outside sitting on the railing by the steps, sunglasses on and his button up shirt buttoned down.

Sapphire had nearly forgotten about Chase until she left the school and saw him sitting there. She froze, her eyes going wide again. Maybe if she hurried, she could sneak past him...

Oh no, Chase saw her, but he didn't smile, wink, or say a word to her. He just looked away seemingly uninterested.

Sapphire's heart stopped for a moment, and anger flashed in her chest. First he was all 'we should go out' and now he was ignoring her? What was his issue? She paused, and then strutted up to him. "Hey," she said.

He stayed quiet for a second, not even looking at her. Finally he turned his head to look at her "Hey." he responded simply.

Sapphire raised an eyebrow. "So, about that date..." she prompted.

"Yeah I'll call you." he murmured half paying attention to her. He didn't have her number so that might pose to be a problem.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"I'll give you my number," Sapphire said. She wondered if he was just trying to get rid of her by saying that. That only made her more angry. What was he thinking about anyway? He was barely paying attention to her.

"Alright." he said hopping off the rail and standing close to her, he smelled like mint and aftershave. Such a guy smell, but good all the same.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Sapphire resisted the urge to take a step back. She'd stand her ground against him, no matter what. No matter how her heart hammered. "I can put it right into your phone," she said, a little breathlessly.

"I don't have a cell phone." he told her staring down into her eyes. He wasn't a liar at all, he's never had one. "I have a house phone."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Oh..." Sapphire said, trying hard not to get lost in his eyes. "Well... uh. I guess I'll write it down, then." She scrambled to get a pencil and scrap of paper out of her backpack.

"Great." although his tone of voice didn't sound very enthusiastic. Suddenly his gaze was past her at a silver camry that pulled up, when he looked back at Sapphire he had a smile "I'll make sure to call you soon." he said taking the paper from her once she finished writing and giving her a quick tight squeeze before he jogged over to the car. Inside was a woman, very young looking though, with kind eyes and a white smile. She had short layered hair and simple t shirt and jeans. She waved at him saying something inaudible from where Sapphire stood.

Sapphire stared, her blue eyes suspicious. Who was this woman? Certainly not his mother. A friend, perhaps?
