Reid glanced up at the sky, a small frown on his face. Small snowflakes danced around him, some catching themselves in his black hair, others falling down to his black robe, his navy blue scarf's ends fluttering in the wind. Winter had never been a fun year to be at Hogwarts, at least for Reid; he hadn't been on good terms with his parents this year, they just couldn't understand his need to be left alone to work on spells. "Go out and be social!" They said, "You can't have your head in a book all day, after all, you'll be leaving Hogwarts soon. Enjoy your last two years!" Though he was a social person, he just couldn't form tight bonds with many people. Sure, he could be kind and charming, though it always felt cheap to him, as if he was lying about it.
Whatever, he couldn't worry about that now, now could he?
He had been trying to find an abandoned place to try and perfect his patronus, though it usually ended with a faint flicker of light and the start of it, though it quickly disappeared. It had been grating on Reid's nerves that most of his classmates had somehow casted the corporal spell, flaunting their patroni around at the Great Hall. Most had even gotten out of control: dogs, cats, birds, reptiles -you name it-, started careening around the tables. If Reid wasn't trying to study, he would've found it amusing. Though when wasn't he studying?
The sixth year made his way into the castle, unwrapping his scarf from his neck and letting out a sigh. His cheeks were flushed pink from the cold, and he ruffled his black hair, it slick from the now liquefied snow. Reid walked his way past a group of female fourth years, pausing to flash them a charming smile, before winding his way downstairs, loud giggles following him.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, he found a quiet room to practice his patronus. He set his books of to the side, picking up one of the spell books he had found in the library. It was on old seventh year's spell book, looking as if it hadn't been used in years. Reid threw his scarf on top of the books, before opening the spell book. Dust flew out of it, causing Reid to cough and wave his hand, trying to get rid of the cloud of dust. He gently set it down, propping its spine on the wall. Reid took his wand out and was about to start, when he heard footsteps. He paused and glanced over his shoulder. "Who's there?" He called out.
