Hareena could hear the faint words of someone- was it Cassel? She ran, breathing hard and following that dim sound.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Impossible," Cassel whispered. Every time he'd ever almost gotten an injury--a cut, broken bone, bruise--his body would just harden, adapt to prevent it. Whoever this was... they must be interfering with his power somehow.

"Cassel?" She stopped when she was close by, her sapphire eyes darting to the closest door.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Cassel heard her voice and his eyes widened. No, she could be here. She could get hurt! "Well, just do it already," he hissed. "You have me here, so kill me."

She reached for the doorknob, "Cassel!"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Cassel closed his eyes and held his breath. Go away, he thought. When he opened them again, the person had a knife to his throat.

Hareena forced the door open, looking around for him. Her sapphire eyes found the two and she stepped forward, "Get away from him!"

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Hareena!" Cassel gasped. "Get out of here! Run!"

[нαℓƒ~мσση]

"No! Cassel, I won't!" Hareena's hands balled into fists as she looked from her friend (boyfriend?- She wasn't actually sure.) to his attacker, "I'm not going to leave you here."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"He'll kill you too," Cassel said. "You knew this would happen! There's no stopping it."

"He's right." The person's voice was distorted, undistinguishable. "You should leave."

[нαℓƒ~мσση]

"I can't!" Hareena couldn't handle turning around and leaving. Physically and emotionally, she was incapable. Not now, not after everything Cassel had said to her. They'd gotten so close- she couldn't lose him.

There was a possibility that she could stop what she'd seen. She never tried, so there was a chance.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

"Please just go," Cassel begged. The person took out a second knife and threw it in Hareena's direction. The knife struck home--right in her stomach. It wasn't meant to kill her, not yet, just stop her. Cassel cried out. He felt like his heart had just been ripped apart.

Hareena's eyes widened and she looked down at the blade embedded in her shirt. She felt nothing but numbness spreading through her and slumped to her knees, "Cassel.."

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Cassel shouted again, this time in rage. He'd never felt so powerless. His wrists strained against his bonds, but he wasn't able to break them. For once in his life, he couldn't do anything. He was useless.

Her eyes focused on him, watching as he struggled to break free. To get to her.

No. Hareena refused to give up here. No way in hell she'd give Cassel up without a proper fight. Despite the rapidly forming red stain on her shirt, she struggled to stand up, the adrenaline coursing through her giving her the edge she needed.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The person's eyes widened. They never would have expected to stand up with that wound, let alone walk. "Impossible," they said in their distorted voice.

"N-Not impossible," Hareena ground out, her teeth clenched. She was keeping her muscles relaxed, trying not to jostle the knife.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

Not about to waste another second, they switched their other knife to their left hand and drove it toward Cassel's heart.

Cassel grunted as he threw his weight to the side, narrowly avoiding the blade when the chair tipped over.

Hareena mustered up whatever strength she had and launched herself toward the person, hands shoving them by the shoulders, while her foot snaked behind their feet to trip them.

[ᴄʀʏsᴛᴀʟғʀᴏsᴛ]

The knife dropped from their hand and clattered to the floor near Cassel's head. So close but so far away. Unreachable.
